Noodledoodleman, I'm sure alcohol purchased in resort for example, up to new limit, can be placed in hold luggage. No 100 ml limit on liquids in checked in baggage. Still a lot of speculation as deal or no deal could yet have more changes. Regards

Are you thinking about travel back by car or from a cruise ship ?
As mentioned above you can't get anything above 100ml  size through airport security.

Couple of bottles in the hold luggage and anything interesting post security. As mentioned, if you have a connecting flight you can't take any alcohol purchase from first airport shop, but then you could from your final airport shop.

We are settled on no more than 1 litre bottle (prefer plastic) per suitcase as weight is an issue. Anything more starts to compromise the luggage weight restriction - and glass bottles, even carefully packed, are a bit of a risk.
Buying so called Duty Free airside is not the bargain it used to be back in the day. Greek airports are probably the worst - their prices are well above resort offers.

I can't remember the last time I bought any alcohol in an airport "duty free" shop. It's almost always cheaper in local supermarkets with the exception of places like Dubai. I'm quite partial to cheap Spanish brandy but would never bring back more than 2 litres as otherwise they became too heavy.
  • NoodleDoodleMan, the point of my post was to suggest that if anyone did wish to bring to the UK,more than the 100ml limit you highlighted, then they could use hold luggage.(checked in cases). As a strict teetotaler , I only bring the occasional gift bottle. Regards

Do people really have that much issue with baggage weights? Ok we tend to do more long haul flights which budget airlines don’t offer so are typically working with a baggage allowance of a single 23kg bag each.

I cannot remember the last time the Mrs bag was over 18kg and mine, even with a few bits from the Mrs’ put in mine for space, tends to be around 12kg. A bottle of spirits is about 1.5kg so could fit 7 bottles in mine and still be fine on weight.

Guess all the rest of you guys are packing lead diving boots or something.

Correct. I can usually squeeze in 4 bottles if I just take one spare pair each of socks and pants. 😁

Sorry, I understood immediately - that procedure is well recognised, and well used.
I was alluding to the "good old days" before 100ml liquid restrictions and security checks changed the relatively casual airport access scenario.
My first experience of Spain was as a Primary schoolboy in 1958 when I went with parents and relatives - you could bring back just about anything that could be carried !!!
Nostalgia ain't what it used to be !!!
I'm a reformed smoker, long since stopped - used to bring tobacco back to relatives and friends, a practice I no longer follow as (thankfully) very few still indulge.
