Not all of them have proper licences, Adrian.    Here in London, there's a maximum age based on emissions - not a minimum value of vehicle.

You can pick up an MG5 for around £20k. It qualifies for a special 100% first year capital allowance. Your fuel will be >4p per mile. Keeping a banger on the road is a false economy.

Whether a particular cab/cab firm is working inside the licencing regs or not is a different question. They are all working under the same licencing regs.

In London, it's "Taxi" (black cab) or "Private Hire" (minicabs, from Uber to the dodgy office at the local station to luxury exec).

Different authorities have different regulations.  Some have a maximum age of vehicle - I know  that Plymouth and Bristol do.  The maximum age may differ from authority to authority, also.

Indeed.

Uber, Greasy Dave's 24hr Station Cabs and A1 Platinum Executive Airport all have to follow the same regs to operate in that area.
