Insurance undervalued my car

Uber is just a minicab company - there's no difference between 2 and 3.0
-
If I pre-book a cab from any of the local companies, that means an E-Class 91/2 times out of 10.
If I get an Uber, it is someone using their own car and earning a bit of pocket money on the side of whatever their main job is.
Seems quite different to me.0 -
All that says is that you have some posh minicab companies around your way.Grumpy_chap said:If I pre-book a cab from any of the local companies, that means an E-Class 91/2 times out of 10.

Uber set minimum standards of the car that a driver can use. Charlie's Cabs might or might not - as long as it meets the licencing standard which itself might vary between local authorities.Grumpy_chap said:If I pre-book a cab from any of the local companies, that means an E-Class 91/2 times out of 10.

The Uber standard seems to be much lower than an E-Class, which is what all the local minicab firms use. Perhaps that is competition driving up the product quality?NBLondon said:AdrianC said:Uber is just a minicab company - there's no difference between 2 and 3.

Either way, if there is a minimum standard, a £3k car that has been written off three times is not a high standard to meet. That is what the OP is using to provide a taxi service.0 -
Round here u only get an e class if you pay for an executive. Even on uber. What posh area are you from? Only place i seen with e classes like that is Paris & AmsterdamGrumpy_chap said:

Maybe we are influenced by the airport. Every mini-cab is an E-Class, occasionally equivalent or better, unless you order a large vehicle (more seats) in which case VW Transporter or Mercedes Vaneo. I can't recall when I last took a mini-cab and got anything else, other than an A6 last October (2019).
Uber cars do not meet the same standard, but still not £3k write-offs.0 -
Possibly... My preferred local minicab firm has a lot of Prius drivers or Skoda Superb on an airport run.Grumpy_chap said:Maybe we are influenced by the airport.
Absolutely. That does sound more in the "Terry's Taxis - cheapest in Tottenham" line...Grumpy_chap said:Uber cars do not meet the same standard, but still not £3k write-offs.I need to think of something new here...0 -
So reading between the lines, OP is an Uber driver? I don't use Uber because of their reputation for cutting corners...I wouldn't be happy getting into a car that is thrice a write off. Many local authorities will not accept minicabs older than a certain age.0

Terry's Taxis are still operating under licenced private hire regs - "minicabs" - same as Uber, same as the Priuses, same as the Transits-with-seats, same as the exec airport boys with the brand new E-classes...NBLondon said:
