My ex-friend paid me back!

If someone asks to borrow money I have no qualms about asking to hold something of equal value as security, same applies if I lend out tools or anything else I'll hold it's value in cash until it's returned. Mercenary perhaps but if a person borrows and you have to ask for the return of said item then they are showing you disrespect, something a true friend or colleague wouldn't do.

i had a neighbor he was a policeman who used one of our parking bays continually for 2 years and was most put out when i needed it back for visitors. I was so pleased when he moved out and I now park in the middle of 2 bays so that cannot happen again. New neighbours father shouted at me you are not using it. I replied back your son is not using 2 bedrooms in his new house Can I use them then?
