Caller Line Identity.. it means you can tell who is calling you. you either dial a number afterwards to get a message about it, or have a display on your phone..

I have call minder on my BT landline so can see the number calling. I never pick up or listen to messages. I check online. I can and have blocked numbers but they just come back with another number. What irritates me is hospitals etc my dd attends use withheld number so no idea who is calling. They alway leave a message so I do listen to that to make sure we aren't missing an appt change.Three calls yesterday. One Amazon scam. An HMRC asking for my national insurance number and NHS claiming my NHS no has been compromised. It only toolk a few minutes checking those munbers online to see that info.A family techie is part of the team setting up the new NHS website , contacts etc and is pretty sure withheld will no longer feature on the new system instead there will be a known landline number not before time.polly. Eta The idea of a loud whistle is very appealing. About 10 years ago Everest installed new windows, doors , soffits etc here. Every Spring I get calls from a local number I know is the local salesman for Everest . I answered a couple , no I don't need new windows ,doors etc. There's a 25 year guarantee on the ones I have as you stressed when making the sale. Last year he left a message, he is a very skilled curtain maker and has a sideline making curtains he'd be happy to make some for me. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry but sent him a message. I'm the curtain maker here so thanks but no. I have a very loud whistle from my days as a Brownie leader and should he make his call when spring has sprung it's tempting to bring out the whistle although it seems a bit cruel. I used to tell the children No means No but he's in a world of his own. Part of me wonders what new skill he's mastered during lockdown...It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.0 -

All phones now have a sound filter so blowing whistles etc will not damage or hurt anyone's eardrums. Sorry.

I've had them all - Amazon prime, my national insurance number has been compromised, I'm being done for tax fraud, accidents (I don't drive).
Hubby had one the other day to say his mobile network was being cut off unless he pays up.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
the problem with all these call minder/guardian/TPS is that they take time to start.. and by that time the scammer has changed the number!! I got a 'call barring phone' (plenty on amazon!!) 30 years ago - and have seen numbers like 0000000 and even 12345679 !Panasonic makes a very nice DECT phone with great features like:- 'Nuisance Call Blocker' (an engaged tone stops them!)- 'timed do not disturb' - phone does not ring, goes to voicemail unless you set a phonebook entry to allow it.
