*Warning* scam phone calls claiming to be from Amazon

Options
I have had 3 of these calls telling me that my Amazon Prime account is overdue a payment and is going to be closed unless I pay them 'RIGHT NOW'

All well and good but I don't have an Amazon Prime account.

You could have so much fun with this! I would read them my card number but keep mixing the digits up- see how long you could keep them on the line until they give up.

I get the robotic voiced ones. I know it's a scam because they don't have my number!

  • Nows a prime time to get an Amazon scam. We're just starting again to get the good old "Accident" scams.

I see what you did there. ;)

  • Only this morning I allowed my Amazon account to be settled while the nice man from India accessed my PC via the teamviwer to transfer funds, limited from my bank account to a safe account, especially set up by Nat West (I bank at Llloyds), while the local police used their battering ram on the front door, to arrest me for my outstanding HMRC warrants.

To be honest, I was amazed at this care given to me, when I was only expecting to check that my WHD had been applied to my utility bill!
  • Warning Cyber fraud through Phone scam using name of Virginmedia service.
Had a phone call earlier today stating caller was from Virginmedia (my internet provider) stating they were aware of a broadband strength problem (which we had) and wanted to fix the issue whilst staying on the phone line. Went through speed test web page on Google which showed low download and upload speeds (the hook). Then 3 different callers later they stated they wanted to fix the problem via remote access to my laptop.  They then instructed me to type in Zoho assist and the computer looked like it was performing a scan.  At the end of which it reads, customer has low broad band width entitled to £304 direct debit refund. They then pass you to another caller and ask for me to open my bank webpage, at which point I fell in and said no and asked them not to call back. Guy became aggressive in tone. They did call back twice, but the some of the damage was done - my laptop was wiped of all documents, photos set up.  Beware Folks and yes I feel like a dunce

    You couldn't make it up.
I get them accident calls and I just hang up.  I mainly get emails telling me my paypal/Amazon account has been blocked.  Not to mention the failed payments to O2 and TV Licencing.

I don't answer my phone any more. If they want me, they'll leave a message, if not they leave me alone. I miss getting scam calls in a way, sometimes they are fun to wind up.

The best one was where someone 'from BT' (yeh, right) wanted me to go to my computer and open it up and he'd go through it all with me. Yeh, go through how to drain my bank account.

Not today thank you, I said. Why, he said, you want BT to disconnect you? Yes, I said, why not?
When he realised he was going to get nowhere, he told me to go **** myself and hung up.

Well! I thought, of all the nerve, BT speaking to customers in that way, I think I should report him. So I did. Not to BT though, to Fraud Alert. He and his cronies will be caught one of these fine days.
