  • Don't forget that you may need planning permission if what you are installing also cools as well as heats. If it only heats, then you won't.

Thanks for keeping us informed.  Could you buy a unit and then install it yourself/get a plumber to do it - some of them seem to be advertised as 'self-install'.
    I think....

Sorry to rub it in, but last night I switched our 2nd one (installed in Oct) on when I went to bed, so it was running during E7. It's only a 3.5kW unit but I was really surprised at the difference in the whole house when we got up just after the GCH had come on this morning.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

We have both of ours on during the 5 hours of 5.5p/kWh electricity on the Go Faster Tariff on a low temperature, just to take off the chill and prevent the gas central heating from coming on in the mornings. Works out cheaper than gas, when you take into account the efficiency of the ASHP's.
  • would anyone be happy to give me a ballpark figure for system.  I am looking at two internal units fed from a single external.. I accept that every install is different so an idea of what to expect would be good... pm if you prefer?

An ebay search shows split multi systems from about 800 (up to 3000) delivered but not installed and also single unit systems from about 1500 fitted.  Perhaps contact one of the companies offering fitting and ask them about multi systems?
