Honestly i really dont think you'll be able to find a decent 2 bed flat in east london either, unless you look at areas such as barking/ east ham, which are really dodgy areas (this is comming from someone who grew up in Hackney 20+ yrs ago). If you look at zone 5/6+ areas in east london on tfl rail then you might be able to find a 2 bed flat.
Or if you go to beckton ( dlr) its a bit cheaper there, but still not the nicest area. If you would compromise and settle for a one bed then that'll open more options for you in nicer/ safer areas
Also what is your current salary, you mentioned mortgage of 183k is the max you've seen you could get (i.e 5 times your salary)? If so the mortgage that you might actually be offered might be a lot lower which then will change the budget you have for a flat

"you may find that an employer will not employ you if you live too far away and have to rely on long commute to get into work."
Nonsense, an employer doesn't care where you live, especially a current one, so long as you turn up every morning .
I agree with the sensible posters on this thread who confirm that west London is beyond your budget. It is too high from the northern Wembley area and it is even more expensive in the areas south of the river, which are rich areas out as far as Roehampton. I don't think you stand a chance.
Sorry. Everybody seems to be "Dreading Reading" ( and rightly so----sorry to all Reading fans), but that's about as good as it gets-----and, of course you'd get the sack because you live too far away
Like others on the thread, I'd think about East London and outskirts. Good luck.

Thanks. I'll have to do some research on some of the other West London names people have mentioned but seems on the whole East London is most affordable even though doesn't feel right to live there. Either its a case of getting on the ladder in east London soon or wait longer to get something in West London (but this likely achievable post job change). If I change jobs in the next 6 months then I will be able to afford West London. Currently on £41k which is low. But expect that to rise to near the 50s once I change jobs.
Would consider the 1 bed in East London. Which are nice areas in East London?
    Thanks

what about south of london.  merston is cheaper.  also redhill.

i don't know if you would class it as nice, but walthamstow, tottenham hale are decent areas in east london and they are cheaper.

May I suggest Greenwich, a nice area.  Otherwise, perhaps Lewisham or Dagenham. And, not so nice, but very close into central London : Deptford.

Very much look south of the river. Doesn't show up on the tube maps but extensive train connections. Lots of green spaces.

On 41k I'd budget on being offered a max of 4x your salary so 164k, this is just me being prudent but you'll get a better concrete answer from a mortgage broker, may be lower maybe higher. There are some really nice surburban areas of east london (very safe) but your budget won't stretch that far.
If you are happy with 1 bed i would suggest looking around surrey quays (not too far from london bridge) this is south and abit less dodgy than the east london places i mentioned above and has a slight hipster vibe in some parts. The more nicer areas of east that i think you may be able to afford (1 bed) would be Walthamstow (wasn't that nice 10yrs ago but its become very gentrified and hipster) these 2 places are very central zone 2/3 so great place to be based on your budget, if you do want to stick to buying in London in a decent safe area, then i definitely suggest aiming for a 1 bed as opposed to a 2 bed in the dodgy parts of east london

Understood. The mortgage estimate was from the bank. But the final figure will find out once done AIP.
Thanks never considered Surrey Quays or Walthamstow. Will have a look.

Well I’m originally from East Ham and would give it a 0/10 on trip advisor, so maybe not there 😂😂

The appeal of Greenwich area is that its near Canary wharf and I work in finance so for jobs could be good.
