Debit card car rental

I recently rented a car and used my debit card to pay. The rental company returned the deposit but there was a £70 discrepancy. They said this  might be a charge from the bank and I should contact them. Does anyone have experience of this and what I can do?

Did you rent the car abroad ??
If you did it could be in the exchange rate.

If you paid in foreign currency on a debit card, there will be fees.

Not sure if you did as you didn't say.

As people say, list the figures here and the bank.

In case the OP ever returns, generally with rental companies you do not pay a deposit but simply authorise the ringfencing which then naturally drops off and as such no charges or FX comes into play. If you did actually pay a deposit for some reason then either FX fees or movements could explain the difference as you’d have paid $1,000 and got back $1,000 but doesnt convert into the same GBP.
