OK so decision made, the horse seems to be getting a nice feed each day... Today she has had 18.08 so I have decided that she can keep ticking along like that for a bit.
The money from my business will go into my EF to make it a nice round £4500. It's a bit of a half way house as I know once I hit my target with the EF I can divert money to OP the mortgage so is going to the mortgage in a round about way... Think I just talked myself into that.
Work has been hard today esp on 1 hours sleep and an hour sorting my mortgage app at lunch time would have probably been better sleeping. 1 day to go.

  • Great EF. Did it take you a long time to accumulate?
You are nearly there. One more day :)

Thanks doing it anyway, it has been around that level for a while tbh but I am looking to get it to 12k to give us 6 months EF and more security. I was previously focusing on overpaying my mortgage but realised that unfortunately the buffer of an EF we have isn't big enough to support us for long if needed and felt a but exposed. I have a payment for a replacement of a garage roof before all my efforts can be focused back with the EF but hoping that will be sorted soon.
Ohhh yes MF... I forgot I can go colour my blanket, thanks for the reminder.

  • Hey LW2G. My twopennorth worth is I feel the EF is a priority over mortgage for now, even though mine is paid off, I feel incredibly vulnerable still because of my small and not guaranteed income. Then for me the next priority is home maintenance as things are very tired and showing signs of falling apart (that's not just me, it's this place!) ha! :)

Haha, I do agree but it has stupidly taken me a while to get into that mindset as I am drawn in by the amount of interest we can save but know that is no use if we are left in a position where the mortgage couldn't be paid.
The Garage roof unfortunately is long overdue and we have booked someone to do it now but will be the last 'home improvement' before the EF is in place unless something is required urgently.. Not hoping to jynx things but our boiler is on the blink.. Sounds like a plane taking off at times but praying it holds out until we have our security blanket in place at least.  If our situation becomes threatened in anyway then I will pull the garage roof but ideally don't want to do that.
I completed a survey last night and was talking about not having an EF so felt a bit like it was telling me something.
Last day of work today and it's been OK so far thankfully, looking forward to a tipple later when the boys have been collected.

  • I think we all like seeing how much interest can be saved, but the main thing is you now see the importance of an EF. Once there's a few pots on the go and near where you want them to be, you can play catch up with the piggy.

Repair not replace, where you can, it keeps costs down and allows another animal to be fed in the interim.

Feeling disheartened today, lots of work needed on the house we rent which I know comes with the territory but will probably wipe out the EF so feels crap. Need to get costings but it's not going to be cheap.

  • Oh no. Maybe a rental EF animal is needed, head this off when it happens again. Stay positive, it may not be as bad as you think.
