Bad guys rented cloud server. FBI got a subpoena and took control of it and recovered coins (hot wallet and keys stored on server. Doh).Blue_Sky said:I wonder how the US managed to get back the ransom paid in bitcoin from the bad guys?

More small countries are now showing interest in following El Salvador's lead, when would it get to the point that larger richer countries would buy some (maybe secretly) to store "just in case"0 -
2013, 2014, 2019 and 2021 are much the same.Scottex99 said:2010 - No one uses it.2012 - Only computer nerds use it.2013 - Only drug dealers use it.2014 - Only money launderers use it.2017 - Only gamblers use it.2019 - Only a small percentage of the population uses it.2020 - Only small companies use it.2021 - Only small countries use it.
El Salvador is ruled by gangs. Gangs that amongst other things have a nice drugs trade going on. A trade that would benefit from having a non-traceable currency. No great surprise that such a country would want to adopt bitcoin.1 -
They already have untraceable cash USD, they dont need BTC to sell drugs0

From what I've seen, it looks like DarkSide transferred the coins under duress to that specific wallet so that the FBI could gain control. It was not the wallet that initially received the ransoms. They should have stuck to only accepting Monero, which is the payment option they preferred.Qubit said:
