I used to pay £9.00 extra a month for unlimited UK landlines and mobiles on my broadband plan...
As most of the outbound calls were made by the missus, I put her PAYG mobile on a sim only plan for £5 a month, saving £4 every month... and she get's her mobile paid by me..  so we both are winners.
  • It's actually pretty rare these days that I make *any* kind of personal phone call - so much of what I used to have to call people about gets done online now. Most calls I receive are spam of some description - unrecognised or "private" numbers  so they get ignored (I figure if it's important they'll leave a message, but can't remember the last time anyone did that!).
I've started using video services like Zoom and Wattsapp video call for speaking with family rather than phone as such. I do prefer speaking on the landline if I have to make a phonecall though: the sound quality and connection are better, and I don't accidentally cut myself off by pressing the screen against my ear or moving too far from the router!
  • Poor mobile reception at home so use landline all the time.  Free landline calls so only use mobile to mobile because too expensive on landline.
  • I only have a landline for broadband, I don't even have a phone plugged in. I never use up the free minutes on my smart phone so use that instead and gave up having a landline phone years ago - nice savings.

Looking at the results for the older generation there are a lot of dodgy answers saying they've never used a landline to make calls!
Mobiles only became popular in the 90s and weren't universally reliable for calls (poor signal etc) even then.  Landlines were king until then and for some time afterwards.
So anyone saying they've never used their landline to make calls is either fibbing bigtime or relatively young.  The poll results suggest older people are saying this as well as younger, so there are a lot of people fibbing bigtime.
Surely only people under 30 can honestly say they never used a landline to make calls.
Certainly anyone over 50 must have used a landline and probably had their own for many many years.
The poll results are, on that question alone, clearly very flawed.
  • I use my landline everytime I want to call someone, if I'm at home. I got anytime calls included with my talktalk package. so might as well use it.
  • Sadly, unlike many respondents, I have no choice since I can never get a signal at home on my mobile. At least my mobile contract doesn't cost as I only have to pay for any calls I make. Consequently I hardly ever use it for calls and only for texts about 4 or 5 times a year.
  • The only reason we have a land line is so we can have our fibre service :( We are paying all that extra money every month for what feels like !!!!!! all :(
    Signature removed by popular demand.
  • my mobile cost me £80.00 inc a new case, on the market several years ago.(nokia lumia) the guy also set it up for me and got it it working.I'm with talktalk and all I pay is £3 a month.

I wish I didn't have to have one to get my broadband!
What a waste of money for something that is only just to receive spam calls even with being on TPS.
    I never answer it.
