Have you checked the water is able to get out the outlet pipe and its not the drain or the pipe connected to the outlet pipe which is blocked?
The engineer checked that and said it was fine. None of these problems occur with every wash so it can’t be some type of blockage. It’s at random times.

ETA: apart from the mould stench. That’s permanent, although I’ve found I can reduce it by running an empty cycle with white vinegar before each load.

Did he actually check your plumbing rather than just the outlet pipe?
Our machine developed smelly washing when we moved, we found the drain outside was blocked and the sink outlet ( which the machine was attached to) was under the water so the machine couldn't empty properly.

We also once had a machine which developed  a life of its own which turned out to be a circuit board problem.

Ask on the consumer rights board.
Ask if their onboard computer would log water coming out of the dispenser drawer or mold smells. As above, I'd suspect a circuit board fault if the problems are sporadic and programmes aren't being followed.

The latest issue is water pouring out of the drawer. It flooded half the kitchen yesterday. I can’t find any sort of blockage when I pour water through it.
What are you filling it from, and what is it designed to be filled from?
I had a machine filling from a supply at mains pressure, and the drawer used to overflow because it was designed to be filled with a low pressure supply from a tank. It was fixed by putting a service c o c k in the feed to reduce the flow rate a bit.

Should the engineer have been able to tell if it was that?
I think you’re right. There’s lots of other strange things that happen with this machine. Minor, little things but just odd. It will sometimes fill up much more than usual. Sometimes it creates a huge amount of foam and hardly any water. Sometimes it heats to a much hotter temperature than it’s set to. It cuts out randomly mid-cycle. It’s like its brain is faulty.

Getting Zanussi to do anything seems impossible.

It’s filled from the mains. It always has been, so I don’t think it’s anything to do with the pressure. The flooding is a recent (and random) problem.

Try changing powder to non bio, even if you use every three or four washes, that should help with the smell, from some of the faults you describe, ie filling at different levels, it would point to a pressure switch problem, ( assuming it’s not supposed to do this on the various cycles, eco wash ect) , however, it’s a fairly new m/c, so I doubt the hose is damaged/kinked, but you never know, it sounds like the steam has possibly got onto the board, depending on where it’s sited, it may not be the display board at the front, but somewhere below where it can come into contact with water, are you sure there’s nothing blocking the soap drawer.? or the hose at the back? you’d have to take out the soap drawer to check, the engineer should have done a more thorough check, I would call them back have him pull out the m/c ( or do it before he calls if you’re able, ) so he can do a proper check and not rely on fault codes...

Hit Zanussi where it hurts and post your video on social media sites (such as Twitter) with a fake account and how they won't fix a faulty machine less than a year old.  I'd be stunned if they didn't help you with that sort of bad publicity.  I'd also be inclined to speak with Watchdog and Citizen's Advice as well.

There’s definitely nothing blocking the soap drawer. This machine fills straight into the front of the wash and the opening is large. The engineer did pull the machine out to check the hose and drainage (only after I insisted!) and he said there was no problem.

Zanussi say if I call an engineer out and they don’t find a fault, I’ll be charged for the cost of the visit so I’m worried about calling them out again. They probably would have charged me for the previous visit except the drawer was an obvious fault.
