Spam emails received every day, sent to obsolete email address

For the past year or so, every day my Junk folder gets upwards of a dozen spam emails addressed to an obsolete Hotmail address that was set up for my husband many years ago (so goodness knows why they arrive in MY mailbox not his - possibly because I was the only one with a laptop at the time?).  I would dearly like to delete this email address so it is no longer used by these spammers, but have drawn a blank when trying to find out how to do that.

I would just empty the Junk folder every so often, but occasionally a genuine email lands in there, so I can't risk missing something important.  Therefore I have to check and click trash on every single spam message every day to keep it clear of rubbish.

How can I stop these emails coming?  I'm okay for bitcoins, and don't need a date with a glamorous Russian lady!  Not to mention all the other stuff.  It would be extremely laborious to block every sender, as there seems to be hundreds of them.

If I could delete the Junk folder would that work?

You can only see his mail if your mail program is set up to receive mail to his e-mail address, you need to delete his account from your mail client. What program are you using to receive e-mail ?
  • I use Outlook for my main account and have a Google email address too that I don't use.  My husband now uses an iCloud address and has done for a few years.  As far I am aware neither of us have ever used the hotmail address, I don't even know how or why it was set up, which must have been over a decade ago, yet these spam emails have only started coming into it about a year ago.   It's funny how my Macbook knows to put them into the Junk folder but I need to block them completely.

I am not at all techie so am stumped by it all.  Looks like I will just have to live with it.

I'm confused. Do you use this email address, or don't you?

Outlook is just a client that lets you collect emails from multiple addresses in one place, but unfortunately it's been around for at least two decades and each different version is configured in a slightly different way.

However, if you simply look at "Account Settings" (or similar, the name may vary slightly) it will show you all of the email accounts that it currently manages. In that list you will see the offending Hotmail account. Delete it and the problem will be gone.

In Outlook click on the settings wheel icon, view all outlook settings, sync e-mail, manage your connected accounts, move cursor over desired account and click delete, select save.

Not wanting to start 'Outlook Flame Wars#2', but maybe the OP is talking about Outlook webmail rather than Outlook as part of MS Office ... perhaps???

I don't have MS Office, just a home user.  My actual everyday email address is ****.live.co.uk which I understand is part of Outlook.  No we have never used the @hotmail.co.uk address.  When I said genuine emails sometimes go in there, I meant in my Junk folder, even when addressed to my .live.co.uk address.  This is why I can't risk deleting the entire Junk folder.

Thanks for all the replies.  Still rather flummoxed but I will have a look at settings if I can find the right place to look!

As I said above, there are two sorts of 'Outlook', just to make things easy!!!
Outlook - a stand-alone program/app that is part of MS Office along with Word, Excel etc
Outlook - a website based version of the above, but different.
There you go, it really is that simple!!!  :D

I use hotmail as my regular email service. Periodically I also get floods of spam emails that go straight to the junk folder, any that get to my inbox proper I just re label as spam/junk and they go away. Hotmail/Live/Outlook should self empty the junk/spam folder every so often, mine does. Apparently microsoft email products do learn otherwise I'd be getting thousands daily.

If op is receiving spam addressed to a known hotmail address and not their own spam to their live address then outlook must be set up to receive mail to that address and my previous post has described how to remove that address.
In Outlook click on the settings wheel icon, view all outlook settings, sync e-mail, manage your connected accounts, move cursor over desired account and click delete, select save.
