Good evening.
so I’m sat watching a Netflix series when I get a notification from my Barclays app.
’your account ending **** received £2325.16)
I have no idea what this transaction is and the reference is ‘PRIVATE BANKING’ and payment method ‘CREDIT TRANSACTION’
Any idea? I bank with Barclays

So that's where my wages went!!

I'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.6 -
check actual online banking, call them in the am, don't spend it, then check the app was real not some scam.

Yeah, that was from me sorry. I’ll PM you my bank account details to return it. Apologies!4

Humourous though Burner's comment is, an approach like that would be an indication of fraud / money laundering.
In the first instance, best to simply contact Barclays and say you don't recognise the transaction. That may be a resolution in itself. If not, allow Barclays to resolve and that approach (report from yourself) should be the best tactic to avoid any CIFAS markers.0 -
I’ve transferred the funds into another account. I’ll wait and see what activity there is in my account in the interim. Part of my thinks I may have been refunded some charges or refund from being missold a packaged account which I have disputed with Resolver. But I’ve had no correspondence from anyone regarding either.badmemory said:check actual online banking, call them in the am, don't spend it, then check the app was real not some scam.
very odd but welcomed if it’s legit.0 -
Do you have enough of your "own" funds in that account, if the bank recall the money, not to put you overdrawn?
I wouldn't touch it if I were you, until you're sure where it's come from and it is actually yours. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)5 -
Wow, it took three posts before we got the mandatory post speculating about fraud / money laundering.Grumpy_chap said:an approach like that would be an indication of fraud / money laundering.
People are clearly off form today...0 -
It might have been wiser to leave it where it was! I'd have not touched it at all.MarkR1985 said:

People are clearly off form today...That wasn't speculation, that was a warning.

The money can not be removed from the account without the OP approval. Even if it was a payment made in error/fraud.Sea_Shell said:Do you have enough of your "own" funds in that account, if the bank recall the money, not to put you overdrawn?

Well if they do then given the rules on O/D charges. You have to get a warning you are going to be overdrawn & incur charges.
Strangely enough. This will give the OP time to move it back.
