You are sounding excited and bubbly. Glad things are going well even if you are disappointed re THE shoes. Sounds like you got some great bargains. Is the house you DS has moved in to rented or has he bought it?

  • Hi All

Back from a fabulous week in the sun, we have laughed so much, completely stress-free week, which we both needed.  I've brought back 150Euros which I'll keep for when DH and I go away for New Year.  Treated myself so a lovely silk dress, very floaty and summery, was 30Euro and bought a Pand0ra Charm (a suitcase, globe and plane), this is something I do every holiday as a reminder, apart from that the rest of the spends were on food and drink.

We went to DS's on Sunday night, treated them to a Chinese, I missed his 30th whilst I was away, gave him a nice Watch with both silver and leather straps so he can change the style, he seemed really pleased.  They are getting the house really homely now and the girls have both settled in well.  @savingholmes they are renting for now but hope to buy in the future, property around us, both rented and owned, is stupidly expensive and the salaries just don't match up, we are a small seaside town in the South West and most employment is either hospitality or care work.

MSEwise, our Council Tax bill came through, that's gone up by £10pm, water has risen and my DD is going up by £30pm but some of this is due to having DS and DGD there for the last year and increased useage, this should drop again now, as should our gas and electricity use, I've turned off the central heating now, hoping this milder weather lasts for a while!

My Broadband deal was coming to an end, we were with 0nestream paying £29.96 with a 8.8% increase due bringing it to £32.60 and to be honest it hasn't been great, so I've changed over to V0daphone, I'm getting T0pcashback and a £105 gift card and a discount of £12pm bring the DD down to £26 with much faster download etc and no price rise until next March.

Back at work now and it doesn't get any easier but I feel slightly more resilient after my holiday and have a concert in little over 3 weeks so that's another couple of nights away to look forward too.  We have several things planned over the summer, including a trip on the Waverley, world's last sea going paddle steamer, something I've always wanted to do  I think always having something planned to look forward too definitely helps.

  • I forgot to say....

Before I went on holiday I thought I would try one of these powder dip nail kits, I was really impressed how easy it was and how good the result were for my first attempt, they look and feel just like acrylics, pastel colours for my holiday.  I stupidly did them before we helped DS with the house so they withstood a weekend of scrubbing and bleaching followed a week later by a week of swimming, I did lose a couple on holiday but I was still impressed.  I redid them in a bright salmon pink on Sunday, took about 20 minutes and judging by how much of the powders etc are left will end up costing about 90% less than the local Nail Bar, will be interested to see how long they last this time.  Toe nails were also done before the house move, they have withstood the holiday and are still going strong!!

How annoying about the Dune shoes - I so love it when I can replace things I love via Vinted ... there will be another pair out there - just keep looking
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

  • Hi All

@LadyWithAPlan, I keep checking in the hope another pair will appear but as they are about 15 years old I'm not too hopeful!

@savingholmes, it was a really lovely week and we are already looking at booking again for next year.  I get more annual leave than my DH so I don't feel too guilty taking some of it for a girly break.

I was a bit naughty yesterday.  There are some well known comedians coming to Big Town Theatre and the shows sell out really quickly, we are already too late for some of them, so I have booked 2 shows for next January and April, just DH and I.

I took my V!nted account out of Holiday Mode and have had a sale so posting that later today.  I wore a couple of V!nted bargains on holiday and my friend thought they were lovely, so much so that she is now trying to find something similar.

No earth shattering MSE news today, just trying to cruise along until Payday next Friday, we've got DGD birthday this week (present bought) and DD home from Friday for about 3 weeks, but I am WFH next week and on call so won't be able to do much at all.

    Have a great day

Booking future treats gives you something to look forward to - which is also important.

Enjoy the birthdays and time with DD. I imagine it's a bit of an adjustment for everyone when young adults return home for a period.

  • Hi MVM, lots going on! The car sounds like it will be really beneficial in the long run and at a bargain price. Holiday sounds lovely and it seems v!nted is doing well for you, I think I should give it a go! Exciting about the mortgage getting under the next bracket!
  • Yay to the car and shoes!
