  • Hi All

It seems we have slipped into September and the weather has  suddenly turned Autumnal.

We had a lovely week off last week, much needed.  DSS and his wife visited so we had some lovely family time with them and my DD, DS and his family, pizza making, water fights and Shjolen.  A couple of cream teas, two trips to the cinema (The Materialists and The Roses) and some good old RnR.  We did actually clear the loft, a car load to the charity shop, another car load to recycling centre and DD is selling loads of the old toys that were up there, Star Wars, Lego etc.  All we have up there now are the Christmas Decs, suitcases and a couple of plastic boxes of things were not quite ready to part with.  I'm really pleased as I am very sentimental and find it hard to get rid of things but it is a good job done and another step nearer the retirement plan.

Mindful that the Energy Price Cap is increasing in October I have managed to fix our rate for 2 years and surprisingly they have reduced our direct debit by £30!  I am also keeping an eye of the remortgage rates and they seem to have crept up a little on the rate we've locked in, don't think much is likely to change before our current deal ends in December.

Had a bit of luck with my car, it needed a new Cam Belt and Water Pump and due to hubby being in the trade we have saved a few hundreds on the price.  Also a friend has given us 4 alloys with almost new winter tyres on which are for my make and model and will be ideal with the journeys I now have to do for work.

It was payday on Friday, my last one on my old salary, I'm a bit apprehensive how things will look going forward but we should be ok, especially with DD now contributing.  I'll update my signature now.

Healthwise I decided not to take my BP meds last week, took my BP on Sunday evening and it was back within the normal range, checked again yesterday evening and, although slightly higher, still acceptable.  I will obviously continue to monitor but I am looking and feeling so much better.

    Have a great day all

  • Hi All

    Just checking in.

Not a huge amount of money saving going on here but also trying not to spend too much either!

Hubby and I have the house to ourselves this week, DD on holiday with her best friend, so we are eating up bits and bobs from the freezer and store cupboards.  Saturday night we are going to a local Comedy Night, only £10 per ticket so a nice, relatively cheap night out.

    Have a great day

  • Hi All

Well it's a rough day here, very wet and very windy but my 25 mile journey to work was thankfully uneventful.

We had a lovely weekend, I sorted my wardrobe, packed away summer clothes, a pile to pop on Vinted and 2 big bags for the charity shop.  I also tackled the airing cupboard and 3 large bags for charity from there, including curtains from 2 houses ago, we don't even have curtains in this house!  I did order some replacements bits from Amazon as our mattress protectors and some of the fitted sheets had seen better days, also DD desperately needed a new mattress and I got her a heated underblanket as well.  I am feeling good about all of this sorting and clearing, it's definitely making the house seem lighter and putting things away is so much easier.

We did have some downtime too, Comedy Night on Saturday at a local theatre and Downton in the cinema on Sunday, two lovely inexpensive nights out with my DH.

I took advantage of a Mu5clef00ds deal at the weekend, 5kg of chicken breast for £22, we eat a lot of chicken so this was too good too miss and will stock the freezer up.

    Have a good day

  • Hi All

    Bit brighter here today.

On of the advantages of my new job is that DH and DD are now doing the bulk of the weekday cleaning and cooking   as they get home a good 2.5 hours before me.  DD made a lovely Mac and Blue Cheese on Monday and DD did a large tray bake of chicken and veg with loads of garlic and paprika yesterday.  Grocery shopping tonight and we always pick up frozen pizzas for a quick meal afterwards (we used to get fish n chips but this is way cheaper!).

It was mum's birthday yesterday, she and dad are both in their mid 80's with no real hobbies so its very hard to know what to get them, I managed to find a food hamper that was low sugar and gluten free as she struggles to find snacky bits that meet both criteria, I also got her a nice plant and some garden ornaments as she loves them!  She was really happy with her gifts and they didn't cost the earth.

No plans for this weekend so I must sort out the spare room and list all the items on Vinted.  I also need to return some dresses to Debenh@ms, after drawing a blank shopping for a Graduation dress in the city we ordered some from their website, absolutely perfect but had to order a smaller size which DD is very happy about.  I was happy as it was a Co@st dress in the sale and was £200 less than the very similar one we had seen on our trip.  She's also found some nice heels reduced on the N3xt website, she is a size 8 with fairly wide feet so not always easy to find what she wants.

    Have a great day
