That sounds a great feature on the app. I think banks are wising up and wanting to reduce their risk of bad debt so are making it easier to over pay.

    Hi All

A couple of days since I posted, bright sunny day here, but boy is it cold!!

So as I predicted YBS launched their Xmas Reg Saver account yesterday, 6% but this year you are limited to saving £150 per month, last year it was £300, so will mature at £1500 plus interest.  I have opened my account and transferred the £150 and set up a standing order for the other 9 payments.   I will transfer the other £150 I had allocated to my ISA attached to my current account which pays much less but I think I maybe over egging the savings this year so at least I can access this if needs be.  I also have my NW regular saver, also £150pm at 6% and also any round ups from my current account are automatically paid in to this one.

I still haven't sorted my car insurance, gonna have a look at it now while it's quiet at work :naughty:

Shopping tonight and I have no idea what to do for dinner.  Tuesday night DGD had chips and chicken poppers, DH had a frozen curry and DS did something with chicken thighs, I was feeling unwell so didn't eat and was in bed by 8!  I felt better yesterday, cooked spaghetti and meatballs with a spicy vegetable heavy sauce, enough for the 3 adults and a portion for DH to take to work today, DGD just had spaghetti with cheese and sauce (she'd had a roast at school).

DH and I had one of our cinema date nights, saw The Boys in the Boat, it was really good, another amazing true story, only £4 a ticket but we did push the boat out (excuse the pun) and have a drink each :)

Have a great day, keep warm

  • Hi All

Thank goodness it's nearly the weekend, I have enough 'peopling' for one week!  Today is already proving trying!

DH and I did the shopping last night.  DGD pizza and chips and DS had Chicken Kyivs before we left and DH and I had Fig and Gorgonzola pizzas when we got back.  This weekend it is just the 2 of us so cheese and Port night tonight and then we are going to try and make paella tomorrow night :)

I'm glad I didn't commit that money to another RS account, British Gas have emailed me to say they going to increase my Direct Debit by £30 to £290pm, I'm going to try and persuade them otherwise as, now we have turned off the hot tub, our usage is below the current standing order amount.

I do need to book dentist and optician appointments before then end of my Healthcare plan year (May).

Must go, have a great weekend.

  • Hi MvTMM, I've read through your diary over the last week. Lots of it was relatable, we've spent most of our money on DIY and home renovation jobs over the last year and a half, so well done for still managing to try and keep to a budget, save and pay down some extra on the mortgage. I wasn't able to focus enough to do this whilst doing all the house jobs  So am here now to try and get motivated and inspired to pay down some of the mortgage before our fixed rate is up! • Hi All

Hope you've all survived the storm, we were quite lucky down here, although it's still pretty windy at the moment.

Welcome @debtfreewannabe321, I hope my ramblings have helped in some small way.  It's hard sometimes to stay on track, believe me I've had some wobbles and am still not where I wanted to be at this stage if my fixed rate.  I think it's important to strike a balance, plan for the future but enjoy the here and now; save and repay but don't cut the budget so tight that there isn't any room for some little treats (see below!).

@savingholmes, you got some!  I'm so pleased, you won't be disappointed, she is amazing!

Confessions time, I've been a bit spendy, I had a really good deal come through from my wine club, 6 bottles of good red for £36, then had another good deal from Tarquins so there's a bottle of rum, 2 jute bags and 4 metal tumblers on the way and finally (!) I did the Gruuum deal on MSE and got the soap offcuts added.  All things we would have bought at some point and all things that I will very much enjoy using, just a shame they all came at once!

We had a fabulous weekend, just DH and I, we didn't even leave the house.  We had our cheese and port night, using up some Christmas cheese and our Paella and Sangria night was a huge success, first time I've cooked Paella and it was delicious.  Sunday I just cooked jacket potatoes with spicy chicken and cheese filling.

We did lots of pootling at the weekend, I sorted through loads of paperwork and organised all of the important bits (Will, Life Insurances etc) incase the kids need them, probably sounds a bit morbid!!  I generated loads of paper to be either shredded or recycled in the meantime.  DH shampooed the carpets so they look good as new again.  I scotch guarded some boots to make them last longer.  Oh and I posted off 2 sales and 1 return to Vinted so all in all pretty MSE.

    Have a great day

  • Hi everyone

Had quite a good day yesterday, worked from home and in between managed to sort out some of my toiletries stash, found some soaps to use in my net bags (makes them foam up nicely) and allocated some handcreams to use in baths, I have so many, I'm never going to use them all on my hands, some of them dissolve really nicely in water, smell nice and leave your skin soft, just don't use the more oily type as they stay in clumps!

For dinner I made DH and I Gnocchi with red onion, courgette, red pepper, sundried tomatoes, goats cheese and pesto, just bits and pieces from the cupboard and fridge, it was really yummy.  DS and DGD with us tonight so I need to decide what to cook between school runs and dance lessons!

    Have a good day

Sounds a good win on the bath moisturiser use.

I'm thrilled about the concert. I'm sure I'll also be ultra nervous closer to the time as I don't like crowds - but she is phenomenal.
