  • Hi All

It's a lovely day here today.  We went to see Top Gun last night, it was brilliant, really faithful to the first film and some nice little references to it too.  OH and I had a drink in the pub on the way home, just a nice chilled evening with friends.

A quiet weekend ahead before a few crazy ones!  We are getting OH's suit trousers altered tomorrow morning at a nearby harbour town, so we'll go for a wander and get coffee and cake somewhere whilst the seamstress works her magic.  I have some Next returns and other post to do so will also pop them to the Post Office whilst we are there.  We are going to put the bench together and my parents might pop round to see it.

DD has a end of 6th form party today, one of her best friends  is staying over so we just have ourselves to think about food wise, I might do some bubble and squeak with eggs and bacon, use up some bits from the fridge and freezer.  DD is also working both days, lets face it she'll need the money!  She got her payslip today and was pleased to see she got a pay rise and backdated pay.

I am picking up our wedding flowers on Tuesday after work, can't wait to see them, we are having artificial ones due to the distance we are travelling.  I have also emailed the caterer and hair and make up artist to check if they need anything else from us as less than 4 weeks away.  The registrar has been in touch and we have a questionnaire from her which we will also complete this weekend and return.  All systems go!

  • Hi All

Hope you have all had a good weekend, the weather was amazing but its cold and wet today, however, its quite welcome as OH and I planted up some planters at my work yesterday so at least they are getting a good soaking!

@savingholmes - yes we are really enjoying the excitement, but it's getting harder and harder not to let things slip to our friends etc, I can't believe it is so close now <3  My parents came round at the weekend and saw the bench they are giving us as a wedding present, they are really pleased with it and sat on it admiring the garden whilst our dogs played together.

We got all of the things done that we planned, OH trousers are sorted, returns posted off and got some gardening done, OH even put up some flags for the Jubilee weekend.  We had quite a quiet, relaxed weekends we were both feeling pretty tired and are thankful for a short week this week.

DD has gone with her friends to view a flat today ready for September, they are hopefully put the deposit down as it looks perfect for them and in a really good location too, I have lent her the money for this, she can either repay or have it as part of her 18th birthday pot.  She is so excited and I am both excited and terrified!!!

    Have a great day everyone

    Hi All

Payday today  I've updated my signature, very tempted to pay an extra £23 off of the mortgage as the odd amount is annoying me!  With a loan payment going through and a bit more in to the savings pots I have just become debt neutral which is nice to know although I won't be thinking about paying the loan off until I have built up the savings more.

OH is going for a job interview this afternoon which, if he gets it, means a longer commute but a nearly 50% pay increase which will definitely help our finances.  It's hard as he is happy where he is but the money isn't great and with the costs of fuel rising its costing him more and more to get to work.

DD saw the flat yesterday, they have emailed a couple of questions they want answering before paying their deposit but all looking good, she did comment that the present tenants were messy!  Somehow she and her friends got stuck on the train and ended up at the next stop, 2 hours away, had to wait for a return train and so got home about midnight!  :astonished:

We have got DGD this weekend and, typically, have been invited to two events that I would have loved to go to if she wasn't staying, ah well!  There is a Jubilee Picnic in our local park on Saturday so we will probably take her down to that, weather permitting.  Not sure what else to do with her as, being a holiday area, the roads will be heaving.

    Have a good day all

UPDATE - I paid off the odd £23.71 to the mortgage and have amended my signature to reflect the nice new round amount.  I think I'll try and do this every month, another small step up the mountain!

  • Hi All

Hope you all enjoyed the Jubilee weekend.

We spent the time with DGD gardening, took her to the garden centre and got her her own childsized gardening gloves; making pizzas with her great grandparents; helping Gaggad with some DIY; splashing around in the hot tub and sitting outside a local cafe eating cake and waiting for the Red Arrows to fly by.  The weather was awful on Sunday so the Bands that we wanted to see in the park had to cancel their sets, we snuggled up and watched the Jubilee pageant instead.  All in all a pretty frugal weekend, minimal spends at the garden centre and just the coffee and cakes at the cafe.

DD has paid the deposit on her flat and filled in all of the paperwork, very exciting times for her.  Her father has still to offer and assistance!

OH still hasn't heard anything about the job despite the interview going well and him coming home full of optimism, we don't know if they are still interviewing or if things have been delayed with the long weekend.  It could be pretty lifechanging for us if he gets it, I'm trying not to build up my hopes though.

Being frugal the next couple of weeks as we have a night away this weekend, back to where we got engaged a year ago and then just 10 days later it's our wedding!  I've picked up the flowers, they are beautiful, just what I wanted, I gave my mum a sneaky peek at the weekend, she was quite choked as I had asked for some freesias to be added as she had those in her bouquet.  The only thing left to pay for is the food, just waiting for the final bill from the private chef for Mediterranean platter, 3 course meal and cake.

My standing order to Premium Bonds has bounced back, I put my NS&I number on it not my Holders number  so that will start next month now.

    Have great day

  • Hi All

Hope you've had a good weekend.  We had a fabulous time, back in our special place where we got engaged last year, have already booked again for next year, but a weekend later so that is is midway between our engagement 12/6 and wedding 22/6 anniversaries. We only had one night away, but it is so relaxing there that we felt like we had been away for days.

Went to an outlet village on our way home but were very good, managed to get OH a new belt to wear with his suit and treated ourselves to a new knife block set in the Pro Cook shop, £220+ down to £89 and another free knife with it, we have put the rest of my parent's wedding gift money towards it and DD can have our old knives for Uni.  We had been wanting a new set so really happy with this.

OH didn't get the job, they were concerned about the distance he would be travelling, which is very frustrating and he was a bit down about it but he likes where he is and gets on with everyone its just with the rising fuel prices the distance and therefore costs make a large dent in his monthly pay.  He will carry on looking for either something nearer home or on better pay.

It's weird to think next week we will be getting married, it's so difficult keeping it a secret, I've nearly let it slip a couple of times.  I've had my hair dyed and nails done, but everyone thinks that is because we went away at the weekend.  I've steamed my wedding dress as it was a bit creased from storage and everything is ready to go, just need to get through this week and then we can relax.

    Have a great day everyone

  • Hi, @savingholmes, no ominous reason, we've just decided to elope, save all of the hassle plus the main thing is we want to get married and didn't want to plan something which we then had to risk cancelling due to covid or travel disruptions.  We are both so excited for next week, we are having all of the 'normal' wedding bits, private chef, cake, hair and make-up, top photographers etc.  We are going to keep it quiet until we get back home and then let everyone know.  At present just my parents and my daughter know.
