I had a couple who turned up for a viewing and had a dog with them which they wanted to bring in. I had to tell them that no, they
can't bring the dog inside, they can view in turns while the other is outside with the dog.

I have a dog and wouldn’t dream of taking him on a house viewing!
    Nowt as strange as folk.

A few years back, I was viewing a flat along with several others during an 'open afternoon'; there was a woman with a little dog who cocked his leg and did a dump in the hallway.

Unbelievable. I hope she bought the flat after that!

I am beginning to worry that all the "normal" viewers have disappeared. :)  We have a lovely property with 2.3 acres of land, 3 miles from the coast. A fishing lake and lots of outbuildings and solar panels.  We live in the country so use what is on the land to fuel the woodburner - seems sensible to me, but we shall keep "ploughing" on :D

Sounds like what we are looking for!

I think 'normal' viewers probably want or more likely can only afford a 'normal' house on a small plot. Sounds a lovely property but you are not attracting younger couples, older buyers tend to be more particular when they already have a home and no obvious need to move.

We had an elderly couple arrive with slippers in hand - they were also carrying a clipboard.
I took my slippers to my 2nd viewing of the property we are buying - the first time my feet were cold because I’d taken my boots off, so I think the slippers thing is just being organised! 😂
We’ve had some daft feedback like
“didn’t like the layout” (well you could have seen that on the floorplan surely),
”we’re looking for something more central” (central to what? - we’re one road/3min walk from the end of the high street),
but no dowsing pendulums or suchlike.
Some of the comments on this thread are absolute gold, you wonder what goes on in people’s heads!

Don't diss dowsing! It did more for me finding the village water main than CON29DW, which was out by a good 5m. If you don't know what CON29DW is, it's just one of many cons laid on you by a solicitor when you get serious about buying.
We used to carry a spade with us when viewing. To be fair, it didn't often emerge from the car, as we could usually see what the soil was like, especially here, where the moles were only too pleased to show us.They still are!
Incidentally, if you're buying rurally, look in the NGS Yellow Book to see if there's anyone who opens their garden nearby, then ring them, ostensibly to find out about the soil or growing conditions. With a bit of steering, the conversation soon moves to all sorts of useful local info you won't easily find anywhere else!

We actually thought bringing slippers along was a great idea - but we did raise an eyebrow, when we said they could keep their shoes on and the response was 'No, we prefer to put slippers on - we always do that when we view properties these days'.   Afterwards we imagined that they would gather with like-minded property snoopers and compare their viewings and I do wonder where we ended up, if at all, on the leaderboard  :D

You certainly do meet some strange people when buying and selling properties!

During an openhouse on a previous property I sold, a rather strange lady and her adult daughter walked straight in and told me they had no interest in buying the house, but wanted to buy my kitchen recycling bin they'd seen in a photo. When I refused, she got annoyed with me as she'd 'come all this way.' She also got annoyed when I said no to her taking photos of the bedrooms.

On the other side of things, I viewed a house recently with the view of purchasing, but we didn't even bother going upstairs, the whole place was awful and just odd. The patio doors had a height clearance of around 5'5" and they had obviously done a lot of the work themselves and bodged it. The day after viewing, I started to get messages from a lady on social media who turned out to be the vendor. She questioned me as to when I wasn't making an offer, asked me about the light switches in the house and if I'd seen them all and when I would be buying her house so she could make plans to move! Bonkers.
