It's the 2nd entry in the downloads column on the far right.
Access the installer menu as shown (hold down the 'up arrow and '+' buttons for 3 seconds), then you can cycle through the various options (refer to the 'Parameters' listing: for optimisation you want 17OP and 17OS enabled). Save and exit.
Optimisation is more efficient, because the programmer 'learns' how long it takes to get from start up to required room temp over a few days, and then alters the start up time accordingly. And of course it will continually adjust this to allow for longer start up times in colder weather. This will not necessarily burn less gas, but it means that, if you get up at the same time every day, the house should be at the set temp by then, regardless of other factors.

Optimisation is an installer setting, for which you need the installation guide - sorry not easy finding & pasting correct link on phone, but perhaps someone could pick out the necessary steps for the OP?
Link was posted above your post. But Macman has simplified it for the OP stating:
"It's the 2nd entry in the downloads column on the far right."

And given step by step instructions.   :)

Perhaps OP could return and say successful or not?

Also several other useful options once you are in the installer menu, such as Daylight Saving Time, Upper Limit (i use that one to stop my SIL from winding the temp up to 23C whenever she visits; it locks her out at 21C).
My version also has 'Pump Exercise', which runs the pump for about 5 seconds every day over the summer when the CH is off.
I see that the newer ones allow you to set a date for a Boiler service reminder too.
Basically, hours of fun to be had playing with the options. I really should get out more...

  • You have all been so kind and helpful. I will have a go and get backlight on as well. It sounds fun as long as I don't bust it👍👍

It might look a little intimidating - being in installer mode - but you can't bust it.  Every parameter you change can be changed back if the end result isn't what you expected.  Although steer clear of "1LA" the language!

For optimum start, you need to change parameter 170P from  0 to 1.  That would do for a start and see how it goes.  Don't forget that with optimum start enabled, the heating will come on earlier than the time you have set - in order to reach the temperature you've set at that time.  After sudden fluctuations in outside temperatures, it might take it a couple of days to hit the target time spot on, as it learns the apparent thermal response if your house, but without knowing that the outside temperature's doing.

But as @macman says, there are other exciting things you can change like auto Daylight saving (really useful) and whether to have the clock in 12h or 24h format.  If you're at home every day, it might be worth setting it into weekday/weekend mode (parameter 6SO to 2) rather than 7 day, so that you have less on/off times to program (although Honeywell always offer easy "copy"/"paste" between days).
  • What is daylight saving mode please?also what does 1hr override I pressed it the other day and the temp just carried on rising. How do I change the temp on manual mode?
    Cheers guys

Daylight saving mode means the thermostat changes between BST/GMT automatically, twice a year.

To change the temp in manual mode, you just use the plus and minus buttons.  The 1hr override appears to be activated by pressing adjusting the temp and then pressing the third option button under the display to show +1hr.  However, without having the thermostat to play with it's hard to know precisely.  The Honeywell user manual does appear to have gone a bit "Ikea", pictures and minimal instructions in six languages rather than more detail in one!
  • So what is the effect 1hr override?

The temperature is increased to the value you set, for 1 hour, after which it returns to the previously programmed value it was set to before you did the override.
  • Just taken bull by the horns and gone into inner menu parameters haven't bust it.  So I thank you all👍👍
