Thermostat

I have just had boiler installed and honeywell tr3 thermostat. Am having headache trying to get it right. Fitter didn't set optimisation or explain controls properly. The backlight is poor if there is one . I just want to change temp when it's on  totally lost

Just Google Honeywell TR3 and there is a user guide.  Didn’t the installer leave you with any paperwork at all?

  • Thanks I will go through. I don't think the installer set up optimisation when he put in receiver. Oh well maybe better without it.

Simple enough to enter the installer settings and enable it (if it isn't already).

Then you set temps and times on "I want it to be 20C by 8 am" rather than setting 20 C and on at 7 am in the hopes it will get there.  Honeywell's optimisation FAQ guide:

  • Is it ok for my hubby to change it or does electrician have to do it. Does optimisation really safe energy? Some say it doesn't.
    Thanks

When this was installed, didn’t you get the guy doing it to run you through the basics?  Is this a HA / Council property? If so speak to them to get this sorted, particularly as no instructions / user guide was left by the installer who, presumably, would have / should have had the stuff if all the kit was brand new.

Theoretically it should as it can control the temperature a lot more accurately however you wont really know unless you've been keeping accurate records of your existing heating consumption and associated weather conditions and then comparing them like for like when you've tweaked the thermostat. However if you are faffing about with the temperatures and timing then you wont actually know if its having much effect.

I'm guessing that most people wont see a major difference one way or another but it wont break the stat or your boiler so you could see whether it does either increase of decrease your consumption. It probably depends on how the boiler responds as well
    .
The only way to see if an adjustment is making a difference is measure and record what was happening before you tweaked it,to only do one thing at a time, letting it settle down for a couple of days whilst taking measurements to see what has actually been affected. before going onto the next. Most people tweak almost everything and then don't know which tweaks were effective  and which weren't

Just my opinion of years or working in enviroments where testing and calibrating and evaluating results was a way of life.
