Clearly I made a mistake in saying weeks not months , nice of you to jump on such an obvious mistake too (now corrected)wilfred30 said:Firstly, the OP says toilet in the thread title and then says bathroom in the post. So, on the assumption that they are talking about having a new bathroom, the cost of that is surely going to be a lot more than £2k.
Secondly, you suggest that the OP will get £200 per month, then calculate that it will only take 10 weeks??
Anyway, I do agree that it will be the lodger paying for the new bathroom so maybe it's not such a daft plan afterall (providing, of course, that they stay long enough)
The cost is dependant on a lot of factors I was just using £2k as a ball park to make the maths simple , again would of thought that would of been obvious ?
It's never been a daft plan to get someone else to pay for something! (Just ask all the hen pecked husband's out there!)0 -
Well done for spotting my very obvious mistake so thanks for that (sarcasm mode off)JGB1955 said:
The flaw in that plan is that it would take 10 MONTHS, not weeks.Homer_home said:
If it costs £2000 to install the bathroom and the op saves say £200 a month on mortgage and bills cause thats what his friend gives him , it will only take 10 weeks to recoup the cost of the bathroom.wilfred30 said:So you're considering spending thousands of pounds to install a second bathroom for your lodger in order for you to save money on your bills? Can you not see the flaw in that plan?
This means that after 10 weeks , he will have a free bathroom , be saving money on his mortgage and bills and have a small increase in the value of his property
Please tell me where the flaw in that plan is
Most people would of said "don't you mean months not weeks?"0 -
Yeah all new builds to keep them DDA compliantTELLIT01 said:I've never had a downstairs loo in any home I've lived in. I've still managed to get to nearly 70 without undue suffering. I know they have to be included in new builds.0 -

OP - it will be in the region of £2,000 to £3,000 minimum to install a toilet.Ok What? £400 quid job if water and downpipe are readily accessable. Or £100 DIY. Of course OP wanted to install a full bathroom right so that on the cheaop fits the whoile lot. Of course you may live in crazy money land.
£100 DIY?
You need toilet , sink, toilet seat, waste for sink and toilet, plug hole for sink, tap, tiles, paint, flooring , plasterboard, plaster, architrave, door, handle-hinges-lock for door, timber for stud wall, chaulk , door lining kit, toilet roll holder, towel holder , heating and probably other things I've forgotten !
Please tell me where I can get all that for £100 or get that all installed for £400 all in ?1
