Santander Visa / Debit Mastercard

Are Santander still being hit and miss what card type they send to customers now, or are they sending debit MasterCards by default now?

Depends I here they are sending new customers Visa Debit and replacement ones for existing customers are Mastercard. I got a Mastercard debit card a few months ago when my Visa debit card expired.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

In our case hit and miss.

My Visa debit card expired in 2019 and was replaced with a Mastercard. The joint account holder's card expired a couple of months ago and was replaced with Visa Debit.

I've got three accounts with Santander.  Two of the debit cards expired recently and were replaced with Mastercards.  The other account's debit card doesn't expire until next summer so I've assumed that'll then be replaced with a Mastercard.

I’ve had an account with them for a few years. When my last debit card expired, they sent me a MasterCard. A few months later, I applied for a new Santander current account and they sent me a Visa!  :D
  • Talk about hit and miss 😂

I wonder what the method to there madness is.

Maybe Santander don't want all their eggs in one basket ??

I had a replacement card sent to me in 04/20 and it expires on 09/21. I’m guessing at that point they will send me a debit MasterCard.

I lost my wallet yesterday so called up to cancel my card, I asked about the new Mastercard debit card and was told I might get one, I might not. She then cancelled it and then said she checked and I am getting a Mastercard. Just looked at my online banking (under account services, use card abroad) and the old card has gone and the new one states 'DEBIT MFC' - I thought the debit MFC cards were specifically linked to Visa cards?
