Really Confused with Microsoft Software

Hi
I wonder if someone can help me please?
Some years ago I paid for Office Professional 2013 and I ran with it for about 5 years. I got a new laptop about a year ago and as I had already paid for Office Pro 2013, I installed it using the same license number. I never actually got round to setting up Microsoft Outlook which I really like (all my emails in one place, calendar, people etc).
So now, I am trying to set-up Microsoft Outlook as it's important for me to have all email accounts together etc. But somehow, I keep coming to screens which are inviting me to 'go Premium' and Install Microsoft 365. Also, another button gives me the option of buying Microsoft 365.
Basically, I am happy with using Microsoft Office Pro 2013 for word, excel etc, which I paid for. Why am I being prompted with all this Microsoft 365 - surely I don't need it do I? Aren't they both the same thing, just one slightly better than the other?
Grateful for any help/advise please.

Depending on your email provider access to your email may have been discontinued:https://office365itpros.com/2020/07/17/end-sight-office-2013/ - "Microsoft originally published [an] Office 365 notification in September 2019 to advise tenants that support will end for Office 2013 client connections to Office 365 applications on October 13, 2020. They’ve just [July 2020] republished the notification to remind everyone that the date is approaching and it’s time to act."In other words, after October 13, 2020, you can continue using Outlook 2013 to connect to Exchange Online, but you’re on your own and shouldn’t be surprised if some feature stops working or the client connects intermittently or not at all.1

I am trying to help a friend out who, as we have just discovered pays an annual subscription to Office 365 and is allowed 5 'family members'. His subscription renews next week.
Am I best to uninstall office 2013 and get him to add me to the family members list?0 -
Depends. You haven't said what you're using for email, so you may not need a full blown upgrade. As I said if you use Exchange Online you probably will do. If you just use Gmail or Yahoo or whatever, those should still work in Outlook 2013.There isn't a lot of difference interface wise between 365 and 2013. You don't need to wait for your friend to renew anything, he can just get a new licence and your subscription will update automatically whether you do it now or whether you do it next month. The only caveat will be if its the cheaper option is his name will appear top right but if you can live with that...0

Check on your start menu that you have gone to the MS Office 2013 item, under which you will see all you apps such as excel / word / outlook 2013 - make sure you are trying to launch that one.
If not, press winkey+R and type:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\outlook.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\outlook.exe
Or try to browse to the folders above and find outlook.exe yourself if that doesn't work, it depends on your Windows version as to the exact location.
I've seen to comments above - Office 2013 Outlook will still launch regardless if you use the correct file link - that is just about compatibility with Microsofts own mail service, should work fine for pop / imap email.
Failing that, you could get Office 2019 Pro for £26.99

Yes, I do believe this is what is happening. Both 2013 and Office 365 are on my laptop. The Office 365 is the lite version with 5gb of free cloud storage.
I do use several different email accounts (outlook.com, sky.com and gmail) so I think I am going to ditch the office 2013 and run with the Office 365 instead.0 -

I'm looking into buying this software for my own computer. Apparently it is a license for one machine only.
How does this work if I install on my desktop, but then do some work on my laptop at home, but I want to use the files which are on my desktop - can I access my files and still use them on my laptop. Or do I have to buy two licenses?0 -
You would need a license for each computer you want to use the software on. If the license is for one machine then you would need to buy more. If the license is for multiple machines then there is no issue until you hit the limit.

I bought a 5 user license off eBay - was rather expensive though ...... £1.990
