I have found that even on the more expensive platforms offering a wider market selection such as AJ Bell there are still odd issues in selecting tickers where same symbol exists on different indices. I have had to ask using secure message and they have advised the necessary nomenclature to find it as they essentially make up their own symbol/market name sometimes. At least on AJ Bell the search by name is typically useless in these cases I presume because the name is referenced from some external feed and there is no matching name to their made up ticker.1

They sent the request to the control team, I had a 15 min wait for the reply that it could not be traded as the symbol was used on the NYSEAlexland said:
So did they refuse to send the request to their control team (that's what they seem to be called) for consideration? Maybe try again with a different agent.EdGasketTheSecond said:Thanks; I made it sound simple at the time; no mention of software to the chat operator; just trade AUY in London; simple huh?0 -
Maybe try again using the example that wmb194 provided of where this is possible?EdGasketTheSecond said:They sent the request to the control team, I had a 15 min wait for the reply that it could not be traded as the symbol was used on the NYSE

Give them my BMY example and I can give you a couple more i.e. VOD (Vodafone plc / Vodafone plc ADR) and PRU (Prudential plc / Prudential Financial Inc) and see what they say. It sounds like someone either doesn't know what they're talking about or they're trying to brush you off.EdGasketTheSecond said:

OK thanks, I will try again but not desperate as I have AUY.L bought on another platform, thanks for extra suggestions.

Not had any issues buying UK, Aim or US shares or funds with Iweb. Great value. Its a simple, no frills platform.Win Dec 2009 - In the Night Garden DVD : Nov 2010 - Paultons Park Tickets :0

My complaint is with their uncompromising attitude to resolving a situation where a London-listed share cannot be traded on their platform. Just saying you can't do that is not good enough.

Another one that can't be traded: GJGB (Vaneck Vectors Junior Gold MIners ETF) though iWeb do trade GDGB. I have been on chat for nearly an hour over this and they are most unhelpful; say I can trade it in USD (yeah right and incur FX). Other platforms I deal with where I find a missing security; they are pleased to add it and thank me for pointing out their shortcoming. Not iWeb. pathetic and unwilling to update their systems.
