Are you seriously suggesting that Tesco are re-entering the current account market?hoc said:EarthBoy said:
Quite. There's not a single mention of current accounts.MDMD said:
That article mainly talks about credit cards though?hoc said:EarthBoy said:
I can't see Tesco bothering to introduce instant notifications for their current account now that they've withdrawn it for new customers.vikkiew said:Any updates to this?Tesco - is it still only available for credit cards?......
I can confirm that neither TSB nor Nationwide have instant notifications, and that Barclays notifications still lack any details on the merchant, e.g. they say your direct debit of £X has been paid, but they don't say which supplier it relates to.
This article from last week suggests quite the opposite: https://www.finextra.com/pressarticle/87311/tesco-bank-enlists-imimobile-to-boost-mobile-app-usageI suppose you are expecting a detailed project plan with feature implementation dates. The release states "Tesco Bank is looking to encourage more customers to use its Mobile Banking App for all their banking needs.", having listed the services including current accounts provided to the customer previously, and then describes the notifications feature already in place for credit cards from the service provider. Rolling out notifications and other features like OTP verification to debit cards once it exists for credit cards is a simple job and hardly a "bother" and saves cost for them, it is not just to please the customer. Tesco could do an M&S if that's what you are guessing, yes some on here think that may happen, but there's no public information.
Very little of their infrastructure (like most neobanks) will be in-house, they may have contract commitments that are cheaper to let run their course than terminate early plus they might be trying to offload their current account book or even the whole bank.
Simply closing them will cause reputational damage to the wider brand and will be the final option.

Tesco closed the mortgage operation a while back. With the rise in Fintech. It's the bank customer base that now has value to a potential buyer. Quick way of gaining market traction.0

Sadly not, if you leave them you cannot rejoin for 12 months.
I know many banks/apps give you real-time notifications of money spent but do any give real-time notifications of money deposited? This is what I really need.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1 -
You get endless reminders and useless information with that option. Had to switch it off. The card spend notification option does just that. The other one shows 'notifications' like 'your monthly standing order will be happening next week' and other useless reminders and 'insights' as well as what people want to see about actual payments and transfers.jimjames said:

I just moved to first direct. Seemingly 3 years on from this chat. Does anyone have notifications yet??0

Nope but they are 'working on them' and have been for years.2

I spoke to someone on the first direct chat yesterday about it and they said it should be rolled out by the end of year. Going by what I've read, I'll take it with a pinch of salt!
It's a small thing, or not, going by the amount of people I've seen requesting it on socials, but it is helpful to see the comings and goings of my finances instantly. You can argue I just have to log into the app, but I don't feel comfortable logging into the app in the middle of a shop or having the go into the app to check that money has entered my account. I did set up text message statements, but it felt messy and didn't really benefit me, so I cancelled it.
