But, if they are, how on earth is the OP managing to get 54% off peak usage? There are only so many hot showers you can take.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Because all consumption is charged at off-peak rate when its active, regardless of which meter output it's taken from, and OP has been turning heaters on manually at night?

Yes, it seems to be the case - although there's some issue with the connection I've confirmed I'm being charged the lower rate. There's a tiny sticker on the meter with the off peak times (00:30 - 07:30) and during these hours if I cycle the display to the second view, the "2" digit is flashing. During the day the "1" digit is flashing. Right now most of the energy in the cheaper rate is spent on the hot water but I also program the washer/dryer to go on during these hours.

Thanks for all your comments. I'm going to try to fix the broken NSH and ask them to look at the E7 connection and figure why the NSH don't turn on/off automatically.

You should hear the contactor in the meter clunk at approx  00:30 and 07:30 hours, although the internal clock may have drifted.
If the contactor is working, an electrician may have connected the
left hand E7 bus bar to the right hand Day rate bus bar temporarily for testing purposes during the day and has not removed this after testing the E7 circuits.
You should get the immersion heater breaker moved across to the E7 switched side as using the timer is not ideal.

Thanks for the tip! If I click on cycle display it actually shows the time: it's actually 4 mins behind! Will wake up tomorrow morning and see if I hear anything at 7:34 :)
