Numerous hack of credit card

Sorry just to state again the fraud happens within a few hours of her activating a new card.

i strongly suspect you wont have any problems with the card from the new provider. Let us know. Meanwhile talk to HSBC.0

Likely it is not so much to do with the card but rather a hacked Deliveroo account that is linked to the old card and just keeps updating. These food accounts are for sale on the web for a small amount and keep getting used until they are blocked. A card from a different provider should see an end to the problem, if not then she needs to do a thorough security audit on her phone, computer and mail. Does she live in a house with its own letterbox or a flat with mailboxes ?

Have you considered that there's more than one way to commit credit card fraud?dr_adidas01 said:Don’t think that’s right as I had a fraudulent transaction from Deliveroo on my Barclaycard a few months ago and I don’t have an account with them or any of the food delivery services.0 -
Banks are limited to the % of transaction they can decline over the total amount of transaction. Exceed the amount and regulator is not a happy bunny. Or customers either.. And blocking individual retailers is not as easy task as many people think.rugbymam said:Thanks for all the responses. Regarding her living arrangements - she lives alone & has been isolating & working from home since lockdown in March so no one else has access to her card or her details. Regarding activating her card - the last card she received she did not activate for a couple of weeks after getting it & within a few hours of activating there were 6 transactions to Deliveroo. I am puzzled as to why HSBC can't block any transactions for Deliveroo as my daughter has told them time & time again that she has never (or will ) use them. She is finding this very stressful indeed & HSBC don't seem to be doing anything to help solve the issue.
Security systems work by rules over ALL cards the bank supplies (credit & debit have different rules as the type of fraud is different)
So blocking one retailer on one card is not a option.
My vote is on VAU as the problem. Just needs HSBC to add deliveroo to the system to stop it being updated. Either that or the card is being intercepted before she gets it.Life in the slow lane1 -
Yes I’m well aware there is more than one way to commit credit card fraud, I'm not stupid!!Chino said:

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Can you block/unblock the card in the app? (sorry I don't have an HSBC card). I know (if it's possible) that's a bit more faff, but might stop the constant card replacement.0

You could also apply for a credit card that gives you instant notifications of spending - for example, the John Lewis credit card sends a text to you the moment it is used.0

I’ve found John Lewis to be a bit hit and miss with this sometimes it’s instantaneous and other times it can be an hour later.whitesmith said:You could also apply for a credit card that gives you instant notifications of spending - for example, the John Lewis credit card sends a text to you the moment it is used.Capital One which is my longest held card any spend on it gives an instant notification via the app.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. That seems to be a step too far, to me anyway. Stolen card details can be used again and again, as the new card number and expiry date are updated with the merchant each time the old card details are used.jay1804 said:It probably something to do with Visa Account Updater .
Everytime she gets a new card and activates it. Visa sends it to Deliveroo which means the fraud can repeat.
