Credit card: most dealers do not accept CC's, due to the fees levied.
As above, always put the deposit down on a CC so as to get S75 protection.0 -

I'm guessing they'd let you go home and transfer the money bank transfer then go back and pick it up ?0 -
I transferred the sum whilst sat at the dealership on a banking app. £100 deposit initially on credit card, agreed collection of car the following week. Then transferred one pound to the dealer the day before collection, they confirmed receipt which set them up as a known payee on online banking and reduced the risk of me keying in a wrong account number. Turned up for collection, inspected car and transferred balance on the app whilst salesman completing paperwork, they wouldn't release until confirmed receipt of funds which took about ten minutes but before paperwork was done. Transfer could have taken up to two hours so could have been hanging around a while.1

Thanks everyone .
I'll have to contact the bank a few days before purchase just to confirm . It will be under £10,000 so hopefully it'll go through straight away . I've read that others on here have had the bank call them up and the initial transaction declined0 -
£10k is a nationwide transaction limit, other banks will vary and will often be higher anyway. You can call them or maybe secure message them before but they may well call you, shouldn't be a major problem.1
