Yes, and what it is is a public health funeral.  :)

The funeral director my friend worked for called them 'Council contract funerals'.  Not strictly correct, but better than 'public health funeral'.

Either is better than the derogatory and unkind 'pauper's funeral'.

Why is it derogatory? There’s no shame in being poor. It is what it is.
But call it what you like, I’ve never been the best with political correctness.

Its not political correctness, its basic decency and dignity.

Doesn't having bodies in the garden affect the value of the house? I wouldn't buy a place I knew had the former owners buried in it.
Only if it is your potential purchaser's late lamented dog!
We buried our dog in the garden. We’re on London clay, and digging the grave was really hard work, even though it was only a small dog. Fred West must have been pretty fit.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Yes, a pauper's funeral. Provided by the state to those who cannot otherwise afford one. The last time I asked it was a direct cremation with no mourners and the cremains were scattered at the crem.
Now called a Public Health Funeral.
Family and friends can usually attend - the council should keep them informed of when the cremation will take place.
Usually held at the less popular times of day.
Out of interest, whatever it’s called, is a funeral a public event that anyone can attend.  I understand that’s the case with weddings, ie anyone can attend a marriage ceremony, but I don’t know if this is also the case with funeral services.

Agree -  potato or potato it’s still the same thing
Pretty sure the deceased doesn’t care what you call it

The deceased might not mind but what the funeral is called can affect the grieving survivors.
There was nothing 'woke' about my grandparents' generation squirrelling away tiny amounts that they couldn't really afford in order to avoid the disgrace of a paupers funeral and an unmarked grave.

If any of the "grieving survivors" actually cared that much about the deceased then they would have sorted the funeral out to avoid a "paupers funeral" occurring? 🤔
