  • Oooh whats with the picture again? Is that how it checks by download speed?

I don't know much but that seems a lot faster speed. So does that mean something is interferring?

We have wireless phones and a wireless doorbell.

Just had a wireless thermostat fitted for new boiler but it was playing up way before that was turned on.

Hi this is with the cable plugged in

    Speed test

    Wait a moment

Your link from us appears to be about 7.211789Mb/s

For a fast ADSL internet link, look at http://sod.ms/
A non AAISP speed tester is: www.speedtest.net, this also seems good for testing upload. 7.211789Mb/s 7211789 468660 4692440 4.919687

So it's much faster when connected using the Ethernet cable! Therefore you need to troubleshoot your wireless.

Very likely. Could even be something in a neighbouring property!

We have wireless phones and a wireless doorbell.

Either could be causing the problem, is your wireless phone plugged into the same socket as the router i.e. close to it? Try moving it or unplugging it and check your speed over wireless again. Some phones allow the channel to be changed.

Just had a wireless thermostat fitted for new boiler but it was playing up way before that was turned on.

Or try changing the wireless channel that you are using.
log into your router and go to wireless settings, its probably on channel 6. Change to another 4,8, 10 doesn't matter which and try again. (You must be connected via Ethernet whilst doing this)
Whist you are logged into your router scroll down the main page and find Upnp, and turn it off, its known to cause frequent disconnections.
BTW When you do a wireless scan are you picking up any other networks?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

  • Hi,

No it is still going slow and cutting off frequently I haven't changed channel again yet or turned off the urpp thingy!

I will do that asap. Thanks for everyones help.

I had wireless with ntl and never had any probs but the wireless was in a different room to the phone and obviously connected to the modem through the ntl box.

I haven't changed anything since then apart from it is a new wireless box and IS connected to the same socket as the phone. Oh and I have a different laptop....could it be the laptop??

    Hi,

I have turned this off what does it actually do?

I am having other probs as well I stupidly encrypted my cvs and christmas lists on an external hard drive cos I had one stolen a while back and cos I have a new laptop it won't decrypt them. So I have spent ages trying to regain ownership of these files and try to access them but no luck.
