Do you have a copy of the invoice.? If so you should be able to work out a reasonable translation from Google translate or similar.

I was promised one from the car hire company and now they say its my insurance job to provide one. My insurance are saying its the car hire companys job to do it.
how are you supposed to know what your being charged for?
anything under bodywork is classed under my CDW yet they're charging me over this for the bodywork, i am pretty sure.

Tell the hire company that your insurance are unable to process the transaction until they receive an invoice in English.
  • i have a right to have a bill in english.
Do you think that a Greek tourist in a similar position in Britain would be entitled to correspondence in Greek?

Actually, if the booking had been made in Greek using a website directed at Greek customers then I think the answer would be 'yes'.
  • I have received a full invoice in english now and it seems with the extent of the damage the car might actually be a right off.
If the car is a right off and they arnt actually fixing the car damage - does this leave any room for anything? should they be charging me for labour when no one is fixing it? or for the parts if the car isnt being fixed?
    thanks in advance

Did your insurance include legal advice?
  • as far as i can tell, no - theyve paid me all the money they can now , and refuse to have anything more to do with me.
Would my travel insurance be able to help under legal expenses?

Many insurance policies include a legal helpline so you can find answers to the questions that arise, or pay for legal costs that arise from an incident such as your accident.

Come to that, your home insurance policy might have such features.

sorry - i've just been through alot and very distressed with the whole thing
at the moment it is tooing and frowing from the insurance to the car hire company. Both are refusing a translation on the car hire estimate i am being charged for. Am i within my rights to request a translation of the estimate to see what i am being charged for? as i assume everything covered under the CDW shouldn't exceed over the 1,000 excess? but how am i to know it isnt over this amount unless i can physically see.
The car hire company are charging me for an estimate that has ran out.
I believed expedia UK were offering me FULL insurance, they, as it turns out were only offering to cover damages not covered in the CDW up to 3,500 pounds, including the excess.
The car accident involved damage to under the car and 2 tires which isnt included in the CDW, but is included in my insurance which i believed to be a FULL insurance.
Can I just point out that you have no automatic right to have a document translated. The car was hired in Greece and a Greek company is involved, therefore all information should be in Greek. If someone wants to provide a translation as a courtesy to you, then they are welcome to do so. I definitely wouldn't in this case as it could affect the legal situation should the matter go to court.

You will need to pay to get anything translated and then claim this back through the relevant party if this is possible.

It is your responsibility to read any terms and conditions that Expedia provided instead of assuming, as is always the case when entering into a legal contract. What you assume is completely irrelevant to the cover held.

You may have a legal helpline under your travel insurance. My insurance would not pay anything that you owe in these circumstances though as they don't offer cover for this situation, it will be written in the terms and conditions of the policy booklet, likely under the 'what's covered' section.
