Indeed, the OP seems to be in panic mode, so nothing is clear.

OP try to stick to the facts. All of the he said; she said is completely irrelevant.

What is not clear is why you are being held responsible for the total cost and not just the excess.

Are you suggesting that the company from whom you rented doesn't include CDW in it's rates.....or did you tell them to remove it because you had your own insurance?

Secondly, did you hire via Expedia UK or Expedia US? If USA it's possible that CDW isn't included and you will be liable for the full cost. If UK, CDW should be included and you will only be liable for the excess, which you have already paid if they have kept the excess of perhaps 1000 euros or thereabouts. You should not be liable for the full cost of the car. In Europe rentals have CDW included; no question. CDW has an excess to pay. You've paid it, haven't you?
We need facts, not he said; she said. Company involved. Which island/location. So we can check their T&C.

So if you have paid it and reclaimed it from the insurance company, that should be an end to it.
Expedia UK rentals have CDW included with a maximum excess to pay in the event of an incident.
You are not liable for 6,000 euros or anything like that. Collision Damage Waiver is what it means. If you have a collision then the cost will be waivered, other than up to the excess you paid.

So if there are extenuating circumstances that you haven't posted here, such as you not following their T&C in the case of such incidents, that would be relevant.

I've actually figured out that i assumed i was taking out FULL insurance with expedia but it turns out expedia are one of the only sites that don't actually offer FULL insurance for hire cars. If this was made clear i would never have hired a car with expedia. It's very sad cause obviously i don't have 2,000 pounds to pay for the rest of the damages and instead of talking to me about it they're just threatening me with a lawyer.
Did you use the UK Expedia site?

Companies that sell insurance are regulated, and in the UK they are not allowed to hide important details in the small print. So if you had a reasonable belief that you were taking out full insurance but now find that you did not have the cover that you needed and believed you had bought, you can seek redress through the Ombudsman service.

sorry - i've just been through alot and very distressed with the whole thing
at the moment it is tooing and frowing from the insurance to the car hire company. Both are refusing a translation on the car hire estimate i am being charged for. Am i within my rights to request a translation of the estimate to see what i am being charged for? as i assume everything covered under the CDW shouldn't exceed over the 1,000 excess? but how am i to know it isnt over this amount unless i can physically see.
The car hire company are charging me for an estimate that has ran out.
I believed expedia UK were offering me FULL insurance, they, as it turns out were only offering to cover damages not covered in the CDW up to 3,500 pounds, including the excess.
The car accident involved damage to under the car and 2 tires which isnt included in the CDW, but is included in my insurance which i believed to be a FULL insurance.

There is no such thing as "FULL" (or indeed "full") insurance. Any policy covers what it covers and excludes what it excludes, according to the details (small-print if you prefer) of the contract.
  • Ah ok, but when it states anything external to the vehicle is included in the CDW, yet theyre charging me more than my excess for external - is this correct?

You would need to read the policy document to establish this.

However, first revisit the page where you bought the insurance and read it carefully. If that gives the impression that you had more cover than now seems to be the case you should make a "miss-selling" type complaint.

  • Am i entitled to a translated invoice?

    Entitled - No.
You should however be able to google for companies that offer Greek to English translations.

  • I was promised one from the car hire company and now they say its my insurance job to provide one. My insurance are saying its the car hire companys job to do it.
how are you supposed to know what your being charged for?
anything under bodywork is classed under my CDW yet they're charging me over this for the bodywork, i am pretty sure.
