You may well do if you want to swtich (a small village outside Aberystwyth I believe), but not if you want to switch.

Well I've been out of the switch game for a while now but would be silly not to take this one up as I have an unproductive Santander account to donate, and would quite like a second premier reward account with Natwest anyway.

Good that 2 DDs not required within the switch, but in terms of deposit requirements - does the £1500 have to come from an external source, or can it be a transfer from my other Natwest account? Can't see anything in the T&Cs that excludes internal movements, which would also be very convenient...

    thanks

  • Online joint account Nat West switching facility been down for over a week. Nat West customer services confirm their system has been down and to try next day - but still no joy after several days of trying. Poor effort from Nat West. Wish they'd just be honest and close the offer if they have reached their new customer limits  :/

Am I right to say you want to open a new joint account at Natwest, and then switch to it? As the switch facility is alive and well, for switching into existing sole or joint accounts. Your issue therefore appears to be with opening an account, rather than switching it, correct? Although it appears that the application for a joint account is also alive and well.

Exactly what error messages do you get when you try to apply?

I opened one a few hours ago, no issues. Also no problems with completing the switch application...

Still not entirely sure whether the £1500 funding needs to be external or can be from an internal transfer (ie my other Natwest account). It's not specified in the T&Cs, but to be on the safe side I think I'll move it in from another bank... better that than create the potential for an argument later, especially as I want the account longer term for the £10 monthly reward...

@ratechaser, I agree it's safer to send the £1,500 from a non-Natwest account. Note you can't get more £1,000 in one go to a new payee out of Natwest without a card reader.

What £10 monthly reward are you hoping to get? You'd need two sole accounts if you want 2 x £5. It's only the debit card spend at certain retailers which pays the respective debit card holder; but those rewards are on top of the monthly fiver, anyway.

Yep, safety first. And it'll be another premier reward account so generates £10 a month, not £5... (I already get  £10 from my other, joint, account) Although in reality I'm using it as another way to accumulate Avios rather than taking the cash. There will be a time I start flying again, and I'd prefer if it wasn't in economy!

Oh, I get it now, you are using the Premier Reward! Seems I might have missed a trick by going just for the Reward.....
