No it's a breach of contract. I did this as a FTB to be nice and then they screwed me over with a broken shower that could have killed me (had asked them twice if it worked as I forgot to check and they lied and said it did). People are all out for themselves so I'd say no after learning from my experience.

once you've completed, it's your house. Why would you let strangers in your house ?
Unless you charge them rent of course. £500 A week?. I bet they'll move then!
This would be the worst possible thing to do.

No no no no no no and no.

We kindly let the lovely man selling the house to keep ‘a few bits in the garage for an extra couple days’.

Three months later, and after a raft of excuses, it was all still there.  Eventually we gave him a week to collect it, or it was going to be disposed of.

     Don’t do it.
  • My daughter and her family have sold their house. They don't have to move out for a few weeks yet, but they have already packed uite a lot of things, which are currrently being stored in my mum's garage or a friend's spare room. It means that the kids have fewer toys at the moment, and summer clothing isn't available (along with a few other things), but they will be able to move out more easily on the day. There is nothing stopping the buyers from packing up now, even if they have to either pay for storage, or keep piles of boxes behind the settee.

Thanks all. I have gone back to my seller and told him this option is unviable for me, and if they insist they literally can't move all their furniture on the day I'll suggest something along the lines of what Carrot007 suggested (i.e. they themselves move out, hand over all the keys and move out their furniture with my supervsion)

    Change the locks.

Should not need saying as that should always be done on Completion anyway.
  • They can hire a bigger van and start packing up earlier in the week. Thats what we did when we last moved with kids.  Get to moving day and youve only got to pack up the kettle and bedding and youre done. Fair enough we paid an extra few hundred in hire costs but it was the only way to do it   They just need to think outside the box

Despite any possible humour meant, wanted to clarify this would be the worst thing you could do (just in case anyone took you at face value).
    I was joking 😉
