Money Moral Dilemma: Should I share my 'free' £50 voucher with my partner?

This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks...

My partner and I are moving house. I look after our household bills to ensure we're always on the best deal, as my partner doesn't have a clue, though we split the costs equally. I've sorted the broadband for our new place - it's the same speed but cheaper, and includes a 'free' £50 voucher. Part of me wants to keep this to myself as I arranged the deal - part of me thinks that would be unfair.

Unfortunately the MSE team can't always answer money moral dilemma questions as contributions are often emailed in or suggested in person. They are intended to be a point of debate and discussed at face value.

Share it !   In normal normal times it would be a meal out.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Depends if you're expecting him/her to pay half the bill this promotion is offered for

Depends what the voucher is for - could it be used for a joint/household purchase?    Would your partner care if you told them you'd got it?  If this is a dilemma and you can't discuss it - then you may want to look elsewhere in this section of the forums...
I need to think of something new here...

    I can't believe this is actually a dilemma....., 😂.
I'd share, but I wouldn't have to think about it.
But if I didn't and said to hubby ooo look I got a 50 voucher for doing xyz, I'm thinking of buying myself abc, he'd just say oh great and not be bothered anyway...., 😂
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Presumably the broadband is for joint use, and joint paying for? Share it.
Meal out or a joint treat.

    Oh, for heaven's sake!
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

  • What is wrong with people??? Are you in a 50/50 relationship? Do you have the same wants/needs in life- assume so if you are in a relationship! So, what’s the issue here? Is it a case of what’s yours is mine and what’s mine is mine? If so you are selfish and need to think about being single! Relationships are about splitting and sharing things equally otherwise what’s the point? Get a grip and stop asking stupid questions! Really😡

    You say you share bills.
Share the voucher.  Do you really need to ask what to do?  Where is the dilemma in this?
