looking at a 2nd hand car, 13mths old, from ford main dealer, car is a ex lease car i take it, 10k on the clock, its not been taxed since march this year
it was up for 17480 then down to 16880, now to 16480, new price was just over 24k
in todays climate what should i be getting him down to, i also i will try for full tank of fuel and 12 mths tax
and it will be a p/x and remaining cash NO finance, i have a min price for my px is 5k owned outright

My most recent experiences of purchasing a used car from a dealer is that they would not move on price, offer any extras, tax or put any more petrol in!It was basically pay the screen price or walk, (and I did not have a part ex. or finance which I guess would be their preferred option as they get commission?).I can only assume that prices are now "tight" with no room for maneuver?.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."1

Discounted twice, this is a car that will sell.
Put the reg no in wbac - you may already be near auction.0 -
stubod , if thats the case of not budging with the price then things have changed a lot, never once paid the screen price
grump_chap ive put the reg in on wbac and all it comes up with is the price its offering me as if i was selling it (3.5k cheaper) now is that the kind of money they are making on it?0 -
If buying a Ford always check brokers for new prices. List may be £24k, but the broker offer may be far lower.

It is worth looking at whether there is any finance incentive on the car. Sometimes it is possible to take the finance, get the incentive and then clear the finance without incurring any fees. A hassle, but sometimes worth it. Only ask about the finance after you have got your best cash deal offer from them.northernstar007 said:ive put the reg in on wbac and all it comes up with is the price its offering me as if i was selling it (3.5k cheaper) now is that the kind of money they are making on it?
Anyway, this car is list £24k, that means £20k + VAT
You can get for £16.5k. That is 17.5% off new list (ex VAT) or £30% off new list retail.
What percentage is that £16.5k off the broadspeed / drive-the-deal price for brand new?0 -
I find that Ford main dealers are reluctant to reduce the price by much but will give things like 2 years free servicing and throw in extras like a boot protector.
As others have said how much would an on-line supplier charge for a new one? Use that as a bargaining tool. Plus it will certainly be worth selling your present car privately and taking out finance with the garage and paying it back after a month.0 -
ive looked about on google with the car reg for days and its showing up on a cpl of websites all showing the same price
its deffo going to be a paid in full no finance, i know when the car was bought it was fleet and big discounts etc, so who has the authority to give the discount is it the finance co or the garage manager, and what should i be aiming for, knowing they got it with big discounts already been made inc payments etc0 -
Is the garage local to you?
Are you prepared to walk away?
What price would you like to get the car for?0 -
hiya grump, its about 20 mins in the car from me so not far, would i walkaway yes, if i could get it for 16k and a 5k p/x (wbac price) plus tank of fuel and 12mths tax i would be happy, so that would be 11k cash to cough up0
