My 2 years is almost up in November.
The gold card is only 10k points compare to 20k, so I am looking for the next best thing.
At first I was set for the 5% cashback (£105 @ 3k spend for the year), but I have just seen the nectar amex which give 26k point (@3k spend) which worth £130. I am aware I can only use the point at Sainsbury, Argos, or eBay.
1) is amex nectar better value than the platinum everyday?
2) is it true that I can close the amex nectar early (say month 7-8), so I don't have to wait for a whole year for the cashback like the platinum everyday.
And start the 2 years clock early too !!!!!
3) do I have to spend the point before I close the CC? If so, can I get like gift card?

The Nectar card is better only if you spend heavily at retailers that are part of the Nectar scheme.

The cashback card will give a better return in year one.

How much will you be spending per annum?

I will only spend the minimum to get the welcome bonus points.
I use £3k for the nectar card simply for fair comparison as platinum everyday require £3k spend to release the cashback

    Why would you do that?
Why wouldn’t you utilise the card for the remainder of the year to get more cashback?

I don’t find Nectar a very good programme with fairly limited redemptions. Unless you use those retailers a lot I doubt a Nectar based programme is a good choice.

Does anyone know the other part of my question

Points are awarded immediately on hitting the spend.
You need to transfer them to your nectar account before closing the card.

So the amex nectar point are different to the actual nectar account.

This might lean me toward the nectar , if I can get the welcome bonus point , transfer it to away, close it asap. Wait for 2 yes and get another welcome bonus point.

    Any problem with this plan???

Supposedly yes. But speak to Amex and ask.

Personally, I would always choose a cashback card over a rewards card which gives you Nectar/Clubcard/Avios points. The main reason for this is that the value I get back from a cashback card is clear and obvious whereas it is difficult to ascertain the true monetary value of a Nectar/Clubcard/Avios point.
