  • 😁😁😁 so far she is looking right through me.......I did buy her a fountain for water because she just doesn’t drink enough. She is long haired also and after all these years we are on top of her grooming. We have clippers. She hates being handled and we suffer for it....Edward Scissorhands comes to mind.....
She gets dry stuff in the am (royal Canin) and wet in the Erving or. A bit of chicken or fish. We have toyed with removing the dry. Can I get Lax a past in the UK?

Okay, my cat Zanzi seemed to get bunged up and twice had to go get cleared out by the vet.   Now he was old 16 when this started and my vet told me to give him a small dose of Lactulose just buy in the chemist don't tell them it is for the cat or they refuse to sell it to you.   You will need an oral syringe and he got 1-2mls a few times a week. I was told to start with a bigger dose the first time 5mls and expected scream liquid poo but no.   It really seemed to work and when my girl Delilah hit around the same age I noticed she was not going to the litter tray to poo much I did the same, I did tell the vet.

Mention to your own vet and see what they think before doing this.

The vet on Monday did say to keep giving her it. I might be just being impatient. As I am home now I have cream on her bum and a collar to stop her licking it off. She had lactoluse from syringe this morning and again some in her food. The food is gone so....

she has been out for a wee 10 mins and disappeared  so fingers crossed.  But I did notice her eating some grass......

Would it not be a good idea to keep her in a few days to heal and to keep an eye on her?  Has she gone out with a cone on?
  • I think I will keep her in for the next few days. She is peeing well in her tray. When am around I put an inflatable collar on her for the cream. But she needs supervised with that on. Am home now for next 2 days so I will put cream and collar on regularly.her bottom looks swollen.
  • So, a whole week and a day later, and Lily is picking up.  She has pooped a couple of times now. Not much, but still...... her bottom was very swollen yesterday and I phoned the vet again. She said sometimes with constipation it can cause “pouching”. I tried her with a warm compress a couple of times. Didn’t go down well but I persevered. The first poop was stuck. I think her bottom was too sore to push. This next bit is graphic so..... I had husband lift her up and I tried to pull it out. I had a small bit of success and. A few minutes later she passed the rest.
I have no idea what was wrong with her. I suspect gastritis. Am logging this for others who might need it.
i now put lactoluse in food every day. She also doesn’t drink water so I now put water in everything she gets. It has to help

Cats get their water from the meat you give them, so they don't tend to take much additional water on top of that, unless they eat kibble; which I wouldn't be feeding until toilet habits were back to normal, even then it would be massively reduced.

One thing to bear in mind giving a laxative every day is the body then becomes accustomed to having it to be able to have a poo. You may want to rethink this when she is better.

  • Our elderly cat had a trip to the vets as well - she's never been ill - but had started vomiting an had diarrhea.

The vet gave us some food to try - Royal Canin gastrointestinal - it's wet food but made to help with digestion as it's very easy on the tum - different to your cat's issue but it may help due to the gastro nature,  Royal Canin also do some biscuits for gastro....you can buy it at pet shops not just vets or even Amazon.

One other thing i have been doing with our cat, is buying Sheba - perfect portion food - our cat had a habit of not wanting to eat a full sachet so a lot was wasted - but these are perfect for her - they are pate type rather than jelly/gravy covered.
