I had a nice surprise today, DS1 has a sony psp that we told him he was NOT to take to school. However... about 3 weeks ago he phoned us (he goes to boarding school) to say he had taken it to school - allowed his best friend to use it and it had gone/lost/stolen. We were fuming, his friend offered to pay for another one, which we told DS he must do as we couldn't/wouldn't claim on the house insurance for it. A couple days after though I remembered taking out a personal effects insurance policy though when he started school - costs around £30 a year and looked it up and sent of a claim through them. I'd really forgotten about it but today I have just received a cheque for £90 - they have taken £35 excess off the £125 I claimed but I knew that would happen.

So that's good. Now what do I do with it. It's DS money but we bought him a PS3 for xmas and we did tell him if he wanted ps3 he would have to sell his psp to raise some money towards it, however when the psp went missing we told him he wouldn't be getting a ps3 and doesn't know we have bought him one anyway. I'm inclined to bank the cheque and keep it in savings then at xmas time tell him that we recieved the insurance money towards it. Does that make sense?

ps: his friend hasn't bought another one and is highly unlikely too either.

Great result from your insurance company - shame you had to use it because your son took the PS1 to school AFTER you'd told him not to!

    Morning everyone,

It's peeing down here! Well I had the chat with the agent yesterday who was actually better about it all than I expected. Although, I don't think he believes a word of it. He said, have a few weeks break and we'll see what the new yr brings eh. I asked that he stop offering me for the tours and he said 'fine', but we've had this conversation many times and he still calls me. I know he's in a tricky position because if I'm requested he has to pass on that info. But I've drummed it in (excuse the pun) that for health and family reasons I'm not touring for at least 2 years. So, we'll see.

Thanks for your posts yesterday, I was feeling a bit uuuggghhhh, but things are a bit brighter this morning. I tell you what's odd though, and I'm sure this is the same for loads of us. But, when I decided to quit for a bit, I felt a bit lost, like I didn't know who I was or what to describe myself as, does that make sense? I suppose so much of our identity is tied up with what we do, it feels a bit strange to not have that.

Hi Cat, We were very annoyed however he is 17 and half so in some respects he is old enough to make decisions about his own belongings. I would have been more annoyed if he had been 14/15 years old. Kids!!!!!

Bank the cheque, but also write to the school & ask them to pass on a letter to other child's parents.... you never know, they may just read it & make him pay!

OK, I've had £87 from quidco paid in today, and have £98 from ebay in bound too, and last night i bought £90 worth of amazon stuff for £44 due to survey vouchers. The bad news is I have to pay car insurance in the next few days and realised that it leaves me with £85 for the rest of the month (not incl food - that comes from the joint account which i have already paid into)!!!

My theory is go OD for a while rather than add to the CC debt which is being heroicly slain each month. Last thing i want to do is add to it when the spreadsheet is showing so much progress, pschologically i can't cope with that!

  • I think I am out of emotions today - I've been through them all in the space of 5 minutes - shock/disbelief/anger/despair and I've run out of tears I've well and truly sobbed my heart out ..............

Took the car to the garage as the 'heater fan' thing wasn't working and warming up the car and also a light had just flashed on to 'check guages' - even though pouring with rain I walked home - when I got in the phone was ringing it was my husband ........ he sounded calm and composed I guess you can't rant and rave in an office full of people and I guess he had time to get used to the fact that its going to cost £1124 to get repaired .......... If I get anymore shocks like this I am going to have to teach my 2 year old son CPR and how to dial 999 .......... aparantly the head gaskit has gone .......... I paid out £800 (to the same garage) in June to get it through its MOT

Right now I just don't know what to do - husband is all for selling it but who will buy it - if we repair it - it will be throwing good money after bad.

One way or another my debt free date just ain't gonna be this friday.

Oh and I think I have officially finished my xmas shopping ............ yep

I just feel really spent emotionally ............. my house is a mess (cluttered) I am starving (only had strawberries for breakfast) and now I am being robbed by the same garage as 6 months ago .........

Oh and on top of all that while I was on the phone trying to take in what my husband was saying my dear little man was out in the garden and really hurt himself - I think he is going to have a shiner of a black eye .............

Any chance I can open the next number on that wonderful advent calendar ...... I could do with it right now
