current phone Huawei/EE. Sim only no contract/expired £16.99. 500mb data, unlimited calls to mobiles/01/01/03
If I was outside of home (would use PC inside), I have to turn on mobile data. I see people using phone for all sorts and they must be on large/unlimited data.
EE have a plan - £15pm. 20Gb, unlimited calls/data. Would this be enough to leave my phone on permanently on mobile data so I can use to access internet, use sat nav/google maps for 3-4 hr journeys, etc? I would not be downloading films/music, I just want to be permanantly connected to internet/emails, etc
Would being permanantly connected chew through 20Gb p/mth ? (40Gb is £20 p/mth 100Gb also seems to be £20 p/mth ?????), or do I just need to go unlimited data
Just want to leave phone on and be always connected, able to access all

Thanks.

20GB per month is probably plenty for you. But there's no need to pay so much for it.

Look around at what's available on other networks:

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/mobiles/cheap-sim-only-contracts/

For example, with Three you can have 12GB for £8, also likely to be sufficient if you're not streaming movies etc while on the train.

But don't sign up for what you choose before calling EE for your PAC to port your number; they will ask what you intend switching to and (after checking that it's truly available) very likely offer you a similar deal by discounting a regular tariff.

Last time I did this a couple of years ago they gave me the £16.99 500MB plan that you are currently on for £4/mth.
    Evolution, not revolution

If you do switch to 3 make sure you get a good signal, speak to EE first, they might do something about the price.
The 20GB is more than enough for you.

thanks for replies. Silly Q maybe but... If I leave mobile data permanently turned on, ok it uses it while I am away from home/computer/wifi, but when at home, does wifi 'take over' so I am then, not using up my data?

There is a setting in Android 10 somewhere that will toggle mobile/wifi depending on location.

Turn Wi-Fi on when at home.  The phone will use Wi-Fi in preference over mobile data if there is Wi-Fi access.

General use out and about uses very little data and can usually safely be left on.  You need to ensure though that any video content is set not to auto play.  If moving away from EE you need to ensure the phone is unlocked and investigate any functions you rely on such as wifi calling or short code texting will be available.
