Really annoyed with Facebook............

I gave admin to a number of my groups to a friend over two years ago now. Well I say a friend, more of an acquaintance.

Around two weeks ago I had an email come through from Facebook saying I had been removed as admin from one of my pages. this page in turn ran around 5 groups. As I had been removed from my own page that in turn lost me admin to my other groups.

So I message the other admin and ask what is going on. Her computer / account I don't know what to be honest was hacked and her account taken over. The controller of that account removed me and is now still controlling her account.

She I don't think has even tried to get control of her account back yet her husband has said that these hackers are so sophisticated they think it can't be gotten back.

I have been through the appeals process with Facebook to absolutely no avail. They haven't listened to anything I have said. I wrote a signed letter as per their instructions saying I did not agree to being removed from my own accounts and they still ignored that. They said they can find no evidence of her account being hacked.

My answer was, well if they have control of her account through access to her pc it would look like a normal login. Still won't listen.

So now I have resorted to writing a letter to their head office in London in the vain hope someone might actually listen to what I am saying, paying attention to my not giving permission to be removed from my own groups aside from the fact her account does not look to have been hacked.

However I doubt anything will happen and I will have to accept that the groups I spent many years and hours building up are lost through no fault of my own.

Don't suppose there are any lawyers or Facebook workers in here that can help and advise?.

Rant over.

I highly doubt a hacker would be wasting their time hacking an account to just remove you as an admin from a group. Most likely that 'friend' just removed you as an admin to have the control. If it was a 'hacker', the persons who account it is could easily get access back again; https://www.facebook.com/help/203305893040179

You don't have to 'agree' to be removed as an admin. Any admins can remove other admins, if you didn't want them to have that power, you should have made them moderators instead of admins.

I get that but as I was made an admin of the groups they ran which were a bigger membership I did the same with mine. It was a trust thing. This worked fine as I said for over two years. There are many groups on Facebook who have different members being admin. Are you saying that any of these admin can just decide to eject all the other admins and take control of the account for their own purposes..? I don't think that is right if so and a major flaw.

If I don't have to agree to be removed as admin then why did Facebook send me a mail warning me I had been removed and gave me a link to an appeal page where I had to follow certain steps which I mentioned above..?

The fact remains I was admin before the other account was. They have tools that can show this. I wrote a signed letter as per their instructions saying I did not give permission to be removed yet to no avail....

Even if you were able to get someone at Facebook to review your complaint properly, how would they know that this wasn't simply sour grapes on your part for being removed as an administrator of the group? Your position isn't helped by the fact that neither your friend/acquaintance nor any other member of your groups appears to have complained to Facebook about the loss of your administration privileges.

You might be better off cutting your losses, starting a new group and inviting the members of the old group to join you.

I've just done some more research (I don't use Facebook), and an admin shouldn't be able to remove the group creator, unless the group creator left the group. Were you the original group creator, or just an assigned admin? But the admins can unassigned any of the other admins.

They can't complain. There is no way to complain. It is all very suspicious to me to be honest as they said they regained control in a post on their private account wall then all of a sudden lost access again. I wouldn't be surprised if she has done it deliberately. However there is no way to prove this.

I did notice a new admin on one of the accounts the other day. This admin is on her friends list. I sent him a pm asking who he was and how did he get admin access to my group. He replied giving a link to a you tube post titled " you won't believe this is dhaka "

I never clicked on it as you just don't know but it was weird.

So either way I don't know what is going on except I have lost my groups.

As for sour grapes, why would I go to all this hassle?. There is no evidence of any chat through messenger for a while as we haven't actually spoken and if they did look, they would see a post by me asking to be added again as I had been sent a message from Facebook notifying me so. There is also chat history between myself and her husband where he informs me her account has been hacked and they were trying to get access back. If it were any sour grapes we wouldn't have been communicating in a friendly manor let alone also chatting over the phone through messenger.

I wasn't the original admin no. The guy didn't want them as he didn't have the time to grow them so as the only other admin he left them to me. I have been running them for around five years prior to adding the other person as admin. So a total of around seven give or take. I grew those groups to be the largest in the area for that subject.

I still don't get why I was sent a mail asking if I had basically agreed to be removed?.

Copy of Facebook mail sent to me.

    Hi *******,
You're getting this email to confirm that you're no longer an admin on ***********. You were removed on September 23, 2020 at 9:04am.
If you still want a role on ****************
    • You can ask one of the Page admins to add you again.
    • If you think you were removed because another admin's account was hacked, Let us know.
    Thanks,
    The Facebook Security Team

That is how you were removed then. You didn't get an email asking you, you got an email telling you.

Ask the creator of the group to add you back as an admin, if they are still in the group. If not, just contact Facebook and see if they can assist, but doubtful as you are not the group creator.

This is the issue of giving people administrator rights, when they should have only been moderators at most.

    Have a good day.

If I've misunderstood something, explain what, don't just dismiss me when I am trying to help you.

I've read exactly what you said.

You were not the group creator, you were just an admin. Another admin removed you as an admin, either by their account being hacked, or (and more likely) they just wanted to remove you as an admin.

Facebook sent you an email saying you were removed (They were not asking you, they were telling you), and to either get a current admin to re-add you, or if you think they were hacked, to contact Facebook. you have contacted Facebook, and they don't agree that they were hacked.

Get the 'hacked' person to contact Facebook to get their account back, and then they can re-add you as an admin.
