The loss of three weeks off a 10-year passport is hardly a big deal.
... except if you were relying on it for travel, when it could be a very big deal indeed!
Not really, you just renew your passport at a time when you dont need it, like the rest of the general population.
  • Hi all.
I think we have slightly lost the point here.
The idea was just to let people who are not aware of the new rules know, so that they don’t get caught out and to wait to renew, if they can. Our renewals cost £105.86 each.

Even at that price it doesnt equate to a fiver for the "lost" 3 weeks. Would be about 61p.
  • This is still going off the main reason for posting. Maths is obviously not your strong point so here goes:
    3 weeks divided by 52 weeks x £101 = £5.77

Strictly speaking, mathematics is an umbrella (inclusive) term - and since arithmetic belongs firmly under the heading of mathematics, it isn't incorrect.

A passport costs £101 for a year does it?  May I respectfully suggest maths is not YOUR strong point 🥰

£105.86 as you stated equates to £10.59p (after rounding) for a YEAR so how on earth can three weeks equate to just under half a years usage? And where is £101 now coming from?

Why did you only buy a 1 year passport?

I didn't realise they were even still available. I thought they were scrapped years ago.

News to me as well. Also bemused as to where the figures £101 and £105.86 are now coming from: two totally different figures given within 2 hours and neither listed here:

Ok Sorry! still of topic LOL But:

Op paid £86 for 10 year passport plus £19:86 secure courier, total £105.86 to deliver to spain.
But cost of passport is still £86.
    Anyway my arithmetic is:
10 years is 520 weeks divided by £86 equals 16.54 pence per week or 49.6 pence for the 3 weeks lost.

That's at the new passport charge rate so 10 years ago it would be considerably cheaper?

Edit found it. Cost £77:50 in 2010?  so circa 45 pence loss for the 3 weeks?

    The Digital/Biometric Passport Processing Fee

The current fees for applying for a UK passport from Spain are:

    • Adult passport (32 page) - £86.00 + £19.86 courier fee.
    • Adult passport (48 page) - £96.00 + £19.86 courier fee.
    • Child passport (32 page) - £56.00 + £19.86 courier fee.

The Courier fees shown above are to cover the cost of returning the passport to you via a secure courier.

*** Prices correct as of 07/02/2020

OP: It does seem that expats living in Spain are not aware or read about any changes so perhaps posting on any of the numerous Spanish expats forum would be beneficial.
