I generally agree with you, but we wouldn't have our current dog if her breeders had thought like that. We're still in frequent contact with them and she sees her 7, all healthy, siblings at times (infrequent due to Covid), so it works well if done with lots of research and with care. It also depends on health tests and what her temperament is like at the time anyway--she's a bit flighty now but she's young so we'll see if that settles down before we'd want to continue her genes.Aranyani said:Sky I agree with most of your post but please don’t join the ‘just one litter’ brigade.
I guess all breeders had to start somewhere and if it goes well (if our dog takes to it well and the pups are healthy) we may well have more than one litter because we finally have the necessary space, time and finances.2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/30001 -
Please please please think it through really carefully, there are so many heath issues in so many breeds due to breeding without enough thought. So many pedigree breeds are riddled with genetic issues and matings need to be really really carefully considered and only done for a very good reason. Just to create more nice puppies is not good enough, there is no nice puppy shortage!Sky_ said:

Anyway, I'm very sorry to take this away from the OP, I can't imagine what they are going through but ill thought through breeding is highly likely to be the cause of this suffering and it has to stop!6 -
When we collected him 11.30am on the first day they were allowed to go he was the last one left, I didnt think anything of it at the time and she said two had gone late last night and 2 that morning. Maybe she didnt want us to see the others? Or maybe it's just a coincidence.
I told her the other day she said she was devastated but didnt say much else. We are under kennel.club insurance and they apparently pay me what I paid for him when he gets put to sleep? Not sure if this will actually happen but we are all very sad for him, weve bonded for 3.weeks and hes settled into the family incredibly well. Hes declined again today he cant even stand I feel so sad for him. Hes still got his spirit2 -

What health tests did the 'breeder ' do before breeding the litter.
You should have been given copies of the results.
Just because it is crossbred litter is no reason not to health test. A responsible breeder would always do them.

That poor poor puppy, I'm just glad he is with a family who clearly adore him and will make sure his short life will be as comfortable as possible. He won't know any different, he'll just feel loved and part of your family.3

Thank you Aranyani, he sadly went to sleep forever yesterday, we are all so sad
The vet on call who helped put him to rest is actually the consultant neurologist who saw our pup a few days before. He reiterated how rare the disease was, they see 1-2 cases a year and they cover the whole south west apparently tly.
The breeder has also been amazing, we are getting a new puppy in 6 weeks time. She is giving us a new pup from different parents for free. It is very bittersweet, but I will put my energy into looking forward and planning for the next pup whilst getting to terms that our super sweet boy has gone. Xx3 -
I am so sorry that this happened to you. It must be heartbreaking. When you get you new pup I would take it for a health check at your vets straight away. Good luck with your new one.

I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread, it's really upset me. I feel so sorry but I don't know how you can contemplate having a new pup so soon. Not being critical, just that I couldn't do that - would need a bit longer to grieve and get over such a horrible experience.
Also I really do not understand the desire for people to keep going to breeders when there are so many dogs at shelters desperately looking for a loving forever home. If you love dogs, you love dogs and would rehome any dog that needs a home. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts.
