Little update: EML came back on last week, plugged Forscan back in and same code with soot accumulation shows up. I deleted the code but this time it just comes back on again as soon as I start the engine. Did a static regen today, code still comes up and EML comes back on afterwards.

Even for the EML to come on when it did is a bit strange as it was the day after I did a 130 mile motorway round trip so surely if it needed a regen it would have done it on the motorway.

Now I'm at a loss. Need the EML to be off before I move the car on.

Sounds like the DPF is now full of ash from the soot burn offs.  They are consumable items and don't last forever.

The ash blocks the DPF internals which are as narrow as a drinking straw, the only option is a new one as the ash is will be solid.

Will one of these places that advertise DPF cleans, like DPF Doctor, not be able to clean it?

I have used Forscan to read codes and seem to remember it says not to do a static regen when the DPF
    is maxxed out.

Have you checked the soot load and the exhaust temperature?   You may need to get the car hot and then
reset the various DPF values and then it should regen as the levels increase.

It depends what's causing your DPF to throw the EML warning.  Faulty sensor, to many short trips blocking it, natural build up, burning engine oil, faulty DPF injector, etc.  DPF Doctor or a mechanic will be able to tell you what's wrong and how likely it can be fixed, but I think once blocked, it's likely to become a recurring issue until replaced.

Managed to get the light to go off now by resetting the DPF values using Forscan.

I still think a trip to DPF Doctor mind be on the cards though as no doubt it will come on again like the last time.
  • I've a 2009 2.0TDCI ford that threw up a DPF related code around 3 years ago. It was just a pipe that becomes brittle over time and throws the code up.
Start with the cheap, visible stuff (£44 for 2 pipes, it was only one that had cracked)
