Failed MOT
I put my car in for MOT one month early as we are going on holiday ( we are not now ) and it failed on a rear brake pipe ,MOT sheet states Repair Immediately ( Major defect )
The question i have is can i legally drive to the cashpoint to get funds to pay the garage this wednesday where it is booked in for the repairs and MOT retest .I do not intend to use the car for anything else till it has passed the MOT.

What do you think? Walk, cab, cycle, pogo stick, ride a donkey, do what you need to but don't drive in that unsafe vehicle.2

This not a big job, a wee bit of a faff but no more than 30 mins work. (Unless it is multiple pipes)1

"Repair immediately (major defect)" is just how a fail point is described. They haven't flagged it as "dangerous", so it's unlikely to be at risk of failing immediately. The MOT standard for a steel brake pipe is corroded so that one third of the thickness is lost - although this is difficult to measure with any precision, so the tester basically just decides if they're happy with it or if it's a bit too crunchy-looking.
It's no more or less legal to drive than it was the day before you took it in for the test - the old MOT is still valid. The ONLY difference is that you now know that a rear brake pipe is more than a bit crunchy.

Has the garage not got a card machine, or can you not pay by bank transfer? Save you driving to the cash machine.2

Dear OP
The rules are the rules and I've read about it and one of my nephews has told me that it is like being held to ransome when it fails on a red alert and by law you are not supposed to drive the car and my OH has read many complaints about this on a car forum.
If I was you and others have said this, use another method of transport and get the car fixed
The link below explains 'Major' and Dangerous' faults and how these apply if you took car in before previous mot expired
NB: This link below is FYI only and you must do your own research before you take a risk ideally the governemnt mot webiste I will post a link to that soon

UPDATED - from Gov site states the same as above but read and decide!!

I would be astonished if there's a single garage in the country that can't take plastic.0
