Awful weather - typical Brits talk

@YoungBlueEyes I wasn't keen on the colour of the string chairs (only other options were black or white) but they are growing on me and I have bought another 2. Bought because having sat in them elsewhere (red) they were comfortable for OH cancer damaged bones but then the grandkids loved them so we needed more. A little Mediterranean vibe but definitely not the weather! No one has sat on them outside yet!
@pinkpopppy yes they are starries, some people seem to not like them but I do. Hard to see from my rubbish photo but there were parents feeding babies but they are almost same size, slightly different colour
@taff yes the Irish compost had peat and so does some of the stuff I bought this year, I agree they need to stop it but if it is already in a bag I will still buy it. I have enough challenges weather wise without using crap compost
@Dustyevsky I also wondered where 'Thunderbirds are go' came into it. Memories, like Puppets on a String.
I don't like crows at all. They look evil and they (and ravens) used to peck my doorstep milk many years ago making it unhygienic until I started putting out yoghurt cartons for the milkman to put on top7 -
Agreed it's v busy on here now, we're all so sociable and chatty and interesting it was bound to happen ha haa!
Right, from memory (cos that should cut it down a bit, but apologies to anyone I miss) - Pas I have friend with cancer in his pelvis, he swears by those memory foam/gel stuffed pillows you get. He has a few and he wouldn't be with them. This is not medical advice etc. I should have said Gerry Anderson wasn't the F A B one, mea culpa. He was a norn iron journalist with a radio show. He died a few years ago, a real loss. Geordie Tuft was a fellah that used to ring in with the old school answers to country stuff... warts on a cow's teet, crows pecking windows, how to keep your donkey calm etc.... and he died in a house fire the other year there. It's said a lot but it really was the end of an era cos you just couldn't say the things they used to. Even over there! Anyway, nicotine spray will be useful to a couple of us (?) on here thanks Farway, are your softy suvvener marigolds hanging on for the good weather? My rufty tufty norvener ones have decided to just go for it bless 'em. I'm not planting them out though cos the slugs ate every last bit of them last year. Grrr. Have you got a big handbag Dusty so you can roll up that Costa Rica bridge and fetch it with you to Rottery AcresAnd did your handbrake (?) cable get fixed? Yep it was Majorcans pp I've not eate a Jersey Royal in probably 10 years. I don't care that the new ones are cheaper, I want the proper ones back! Cheap and value for money are not the same thing. My lavenders still haven't totally died but my wee jades haven't either so... Did you get laid out on the sofa 2p, or were you up and doing? Woohoo for your courgette Arb, was it tasty?
Sunny today so far even if it is cold, and I don't know what the forecast is cos I've given up with that nonsense. I'm gonna get some gardening done - tall things need supporting, and the whole patch needs weeding/hoeing again. I've decided to do the crazy thing with my plum tree, even though I'm still not sure cos I can't find anything about anyone else that's done it, so yous may witness a World's First. There was a beautiful sky here last night, my pic almost captures itThe lower part was a richer creamier colour and the clouds were perfectly defined cotton wool bobbles
Stripey roses aren’t popular on here, but what if it’s only the one stripe…?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.10 -

I think everyone's got the red banner. I did look back to check what Dusty has been saying, but no, we're good“Moi?” I don't say anything political, except perhaps “Ignore most of what most politicians tell you!” A few years ago, they were all were exhorting us to do something risky and daft, so none of them is infallible or outside the capture of the MSM, who run the People's Pantomime. Once I worked out what that was about, I decided the most effective response was not to participate in their nonsense and say “No!” when it matters.There. I've probably upset someone now!Sorry!
YoungBlueEyes said:Here’s the bird thing I think should be wider known ( it goes against your instincts really) -And thing out the front that is prob a weed but look how happy it is. The future’s bright…Walking friend has had a couple of recent encounters with swifts...or probably the same one. It's ended-up inside her wood burner twice now! When you consider it has to go down one of those stainless steel 'Chinese restaurant' style chimneys, not fall into the sweeping trap, but instead, pass into the angled bit leading to the stove, and then get around the smoke baffle, it's a huge feat!
I just wonder what happened to the bit at the top that should prevent birds from getting in, but there's no way I'm going up there to find out! The bird has flown off, apparently unharmed, when released at the front door.

Aww rescuing and releasing birds is definitely double bubble karma points imo. Thanks for confirming the fox and cubs id, I'll see how it goes. I had none last year and a good half dozen this year so I might pull a few up before they seed. We'll see. It's nice to see something growing out there, that doesn't include any work on my part. I'm having no luck with seeds and toms and stuff this year, so it's nice to know Mother Nature will step in
Oh and the nearly 4ft tall yellow rose in my last post is actually a white dwarf bush rose according to the label :rolleyes:I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -

Besides being pretty, that looks like a developing mackerel sky. And you know what they say....”Mackerel sky, not long dry.” which is probably why we have rain forecast for 10.00 here.I don't really mind. Mrs Dusty and I went a bit crazy yesterday trying to get 'everything' done before the rain, and of course we kernackered ourselves, and we didn't 'achieve our targets' either!
I also ran over part of Mrs Dusty's chicken bird flu protection run that doesn't work, which she'd cunningly hidden in the long grass, and the ride-on ate some of it, so I'll need to order some spares. It wouldn't matter, as it's carp, but apparently, it's to be a fruit cage next. The van isn't mended. Being a 22-year-old vehicle, ordering spares takes longer, say the garage. I expect their 2001 edition of Halfords catalogue has gone down the back of the filing cabinet.Your rose is fine, and if it has good scent it's finer still. Here's a shrub rose we saw on our garden perambulation at the weekend. No idea what it's called or even where it was now.

Sun at first, dull on the way though.Regardless, I'm off to water the volunteer pots later, got a prescription to collect, and I may find myself in Morries plant area after that.YBE, nice sky shot and I like Lance Corporal rose. Not sure what Cunning Plan you have for The Plum, but mine has yet again won the Disappointment Cup for the umpteenth year running. It will have to go once I find a suitable thing to go in the large pot, but first I have to get it out of the pot and my back etc makes that harder than it reads.I think I'll await a strong offspring to visit, no rush.Space nearly ready for the broad beans, Red Campion chopped down, and now I have to oik out the roots, probably tomorrow's job because limited with time today. My first red strawberry spotted, not quite ripe, but the solo early raspberry was ripe & duly eaten, naturally it was super tasty. Here's the surviving Love in a Mist Persian Jewel, nothing outstanding except it grew. I do like the quirky nature of the plant, though.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8

If it’s not long dry I’ll have to get me grass cut today then. And your pink rose looks like one of my swish ones, stuffed to the gills with petals and an amazing fragrance. The yellow one smells more than ok too.Better luck achieving your targets today, mind if you fail again I can think of a line of work you could start canvassing forI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6

PP that’s an amazing blue sky on your ceanothus pic. We are still getting grey ,sun plus bittter cold wind, the wind is drying out the soil . But I can’t water with the watering can it’s too heavy so yesterday did a few trips round with a cup 🫣
My SIL came and dug out the zebra grass, he had took all of it out and binned it before I could say to keep a small bit, but tbh I like the gap it’s left ,as I can see through to the bottom patio, and the space is Barnsley baby shaped 😉
After he left I tidied it up a bit but shouldn’t have done as I was aching.spent rest of afternoon reading. At least the washing dried.
Im being picked up to go for lunch today with friends for a late birthday catch up.
The forecast is wild rain later then it’s heading to YBE.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -

YBE, the fox and cubs does spread like crazy but it's easily pulled up. I have an orangey rose with red stripes like that too. I love it becaiuse it's different colours..I can't wait to see what you're going to do to the plum.Arb, that is impressive, having a courgette already, my whole plant is only the size of a charger.plate.Dusty, I noticed somemoss on my windows yesterday, I swear it hasn't been that long since I washed it. That's a very Indiana Jones bridge there, no thank you very much
And can matchher swift story with a stupid pigeon story. One managed to get into a similar arrangement chimney when we were in Italy, took two days to work it's way down to the fire itself, finally caught the stupid thing and let it go in the yard. It walked up and down drunkenly for about ten minutes then found it's way to the pavement along the length of yeard, still walking drunkenly, turned right and was never seen again. We called it Simone Piccione..
2p, that looks super heathy! Any tips?Farway, I did like your thorough explanation but first..find a willing grannyI do like a bottle of Jersey milk occasionally just to have on cornflakes but then Ihave to go all second breakfast with more. Glad to finally see a Persian Jewel too
I pressed post instead of save draft obviously so get ready for more!pp, I like those orange pom pom ones much better than the other kind, I might have to find room for one. Hope the babby lived...and that's an excellent action shotpas, same, I will try again with peat free next year [I've been trying ti pretty much every year but haven't found a consistently good one yet. I think I need to ramp up my own compost production, which did result in me half emptying the green bin and shredding lots of it because why am I giving my ompost away !!!!!!/fgs?wort, I did laugh at the barnsley baby shaped...So today I have some bulbs to put somewhere. I've Made a Decision...Not going to grow a range of veg in the future [unless the world explodes or I get an allotment] just the stuff I eat, like courgettes, beans and pumpkins and tomatoes and cucumbers.chillies in the greenhouse. I want more plants and less earth sitting there doing nothing. And I have discovered the range of stuff I could have if I didn't. I moved a lot of my pots yesterday, waiting for OH to help with the last two, they are as heavy as some I moved but like Dusty, I fel the after effects of too much so I'm being kind of sensible...Grey but bright skies so far, I'd better get the washing in before it changes.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi5
