Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Wort, hope you get better soon. When I was told I wouldn't move for 2 weeks or more I was mortified before the op. However I quickly learned to do nothing and just chill. Great experience that wasn't my norm. I got hooked into daytime tv. You could always watch all the Monty Don around the world gardens and have a little dream. I loved seeing the peoples allotments with fruit and veg more than the grand stuff.Or sort out all you photos.............Arbs, I sympathise. Didn't used to be a sufferer but it grew on me. A wise farmer said 'you're alergic to sunshine'......what he meant was the heat draws the dust into the atmosphere. I'm a May sufferer and never worked out why. But waking up repeatedly unable to breath right is so annoying.Hope not too many more people have bits dropping off. It's cool and spitting rain every so often but nothing useful or worth putting on the weather forcast.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

It's dull, overcast and intermittently raining here so have spent some of the day planning and optimistically popping seeds into pots, you never know.
I love the goslings, I've only seen one brood here this year and they were got by the crows very quickly after leaving their nest. But the feral pigeons are breeding on top of a security light which must be nice and warm for them.
PP - could you not hint to the sand martin people that they could make some money from some kind of bird spotting trail or a live camera feed or somesuch, if there's money in it they might be more inclined to treat the birds nicely.
Dusty - now I have greenhouse envy and agree with Farway that the smell must be sublime.
Wort - hope you get well soon and enjoy the enforced rest, there are always plenty of gardening books to read and planning to do so you could choose some bulbs to plant later in the year if you were really clever and then you'd get in first with your order before the hordes.
2p - hope your neighbour sees the light soon, it must be wearing watching her suffer. Clever you for rooting the snippet, where is it going to live now?"She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

Goldie said "where is it going to live now? "Now there's the problem............................Which gave me the Wort idea = search the net on Images for garden ponds/raised bed gardens, paths etc.to save in your Wish folderGreat fun to plan and will give you ideas above your station.

ybe, not geum, geranium..geums are mostly sterile, you propogate by division, hence why I was so happy to see a bunch of plants instead of one
Yeah, salt water was a favourite of my mothers for every cut, followed by honey so that wasn't too bad but very sticky. You sound like a right lot of tearaways [ hello Enid Blyton] Five go to the Silo?
pp, I remember you posting that originally, and I third or fourthd writing to some people, maybe wotsisface, you know off, springwatch and stuff...Chris Packham! that's the one...or tag him on Instagram if he's on there.2p, there's some good strong roots on that..what is it? And awwww! cute fuzzies!Dusty, the wind vane the story of your life?and oh my god, is that the king of greenhouses? ::swoon:: and look how pretty the automatoc [sort of] vent brackets are...::double swoon::
Farway, it was me with the beans. I found a pack I didn't know I had today so they're going in tomorrow then, on your advice [ won't blame you if things go wrong honest.....mutter mutter,,,]wort, I like your style. Holiday first, op after...speedy recovery! and enjoy catching up on all things tv /internet related.Arb, pants about the allergies...GF, I swear I saw a crow as big as a seagull today, sitting on a neighbours tv aerial, comared to the pigeon by it, it was twice the size. I had a Poe shiver over that one. Good idea re the sand martins. Not much gardening today, it decided to rain and be 14 degrees colder than Sunday was..Honestly, all this yo yoing about is making me crazy. So I sowed one of my special seeds which arrived today [ the other two have to wait for autumn] Coastal Hog Fennel, sounds like fun, not sure if it tastes like fun though, but we'll see next year.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7 -
Found a new favourite website for things - apart from rosebay willowherb, dock and the like

Forecast has been updated to dry until about 10 tonight, so I might go out now for a bit more watering. Wet for the rest of the week, if they can be trusted, so it'll keep the waterbutt topped off.
Had fun with the kitten yesterday. A whole bunch of crows being angry in the morning. I thought they didn't like my putting the wash out, but then I noticed they were focused on a spot at the end of the garden. Headed over to take a look and found the cat looking nice as you please with a juvenile (I think) sat quietly between her front paws. Cat was looking a little wild eyed at the noise/attention and thankfully the bird seemed okay. Picked the cat up and brought her inside, juvenile flew away as soon as it was clear... but since then whenever she goes outside they send up the alarm and are hopping around on the fence keeping an eye on her. At least I won't lose her anytime soon
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.8 -
I remember our ex neighbour's cat managed to grab a fully grown male pheasant once - the bird was bigger than the cat.
I've been thinking about all your suggestions for the Sand Martin nest site and am going to contact the council. I don't know what kind of response I'll get, but at least I'll have brought it to their attention.
Our cheeky robin came right up to the back door this morning when I opened it to throw some food outWe've also had a couple of baby sparrows in the garden fluttering their wings at the parents - so cute. The baby bunny is still doing a good job of eating the long grass - no idea how it's getting into the garden though as we're fully fenced.
That greenhouse was lovely, Dusty. I loved the comment from someone (sorry, can't remember who) about being able to 'smell' the inside from the photo - I know exactly what they meantI really liked the big terracotta pot that was inside too and agree with taff about the vent brackets.
The 'ideas above your station' comment made me laugh, twopenny. I'll be googling and looking at images today (great idea btw) as the weather is forecast to be cold and wet - 11 degrees max temperature.
Hope your recovery is swift, wort.'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Morning all, woke to sun but forcast is rain this morning, and already had a down pour.
Thank you all for your good wishes and ideas to keep me occupied. I’m already getting told off for doing things I shouldn’t be, it’s much harder when you live alone, as a small thing seems ridiculous to ask someone to come and do for you. I put some washing in , but my sister will come to put it out. But today looks like the best day of the week.
Arb sorry to hear your hay fever is getting in the way of your gardening. Good you managed to save the baby bird. I’m surprised the parents didn’t dive bomb the cat.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
It similar here atm Arb, I always know when his Holyness is about cos the blackies send up the most awful squawking alarm. They're gonna wear their little throats out
Hayfever sufferer here too, I find the cheapo Aldi/Lidl tablets take the edge off but when my system's overloaded I take cheapo "blocked nose relief" capsules. Doesn't work on the hayfever itself but the nose's reaction - it takes down the inflammation of the lining so I can breathe. Hayfever tablet in the morning, a nose one a couple of hours before bedtime
This is not medical advice etc but I hope it helps Arb/2p/whoever needs it.
Thanks for the geum/geranium clarification taff. Handy actually because I've been deadheading my one and keeping them for the seeds... I'll bin em now I know better. Brilliant idea for pp to get Chris Packham (and his step/daughter?) involved in the sand martin bank fiasco. See how many oopsie daisies they make when all of twiXer is watching themGf's idea was brilliant too, monetise the gig and see how far they get then

Those are some healthy looking roots in your jar 2p, what kind of plant is it? Hopefully your dentist didn't cancel yesterday. I love your fluffy goslingsEven though we're kinda rural there's nothing like that round here.
Now that's what you call a greenhouse Dusty, and those window mechanisms are beautifulIt looks like it smells like the brick shed that's over my fence. Bet it would cost a fortune to buy one/have one built like that now. Did we work out who's got the cheque book, cos I want one, and hands up who else wants one
Good luck with your runners Farway, the damp kitchen tissue seems to be a winner eh. If they can manage it on Becchgrove yours should do well?
Wort, I hope you find your inner indolence. Sounds like a good pile of books and films is called forAnd someone to stop you when you say "ooh I'll just..."
Lovely and sunny here and has been all morning. Breeze is a bit keen so I've a wash out and another on cos I didn't get it done yesterday. They were right about the rain - shock! If I wasn't so cynical I'd have planted some of these flower bomb things I've got boxes and boxes ofI had a hen who could count her own eggs - she was a mathemachicken.7 -
Supposed to be sunny and gorgeous all day but so far, chilly and cloudy. I'm sat waiting for my bits to put themselves right and think it's time for a 'grand day out;'..............The rooted broken branch was my ? Million bells or trio bells?Happy to have more of those and mine was £3 so next year I'll buy one and break it's little branches off to increase my set. It's rare for me to have something that doesn't survive the winter but they bloom all summer and are so cheerful.Lol Wort, just stop it! You want to get better fast not take longer but have nice clean washing :-)Having said that when I was supposed to be sofa bound I hopped my way into the garden with a blanket and my book and lay in the sun. I figured the surgeon would be horrified but the sun would heal and happily watched the lawn grow. The world didn't cave in because I couldn't do anything and all was put right quickly when I was better.Dentist let me off lightly. £30 and I persuaded her to let me have 6mts to the next appt and leave my teeth alone. Something is wrong there. She's put masses of weight on in just a few weeks and was not her usual happy self. I've known her so long I'm worried about her. Such a nice lady.Neighbour I got to speak to and says she's not happy but putting on a brave face. No he won't buy and sell on the computer he's always on and I didn't dare mention another job. He didn't return yesterday so maybe he's made up with his girlfriend and I can get the daylight back in my house without that massive black car.I'm saving the gardening for the weekend. Chopping bramble, shifting unwanted/unsucessful plants to the badger run if my legs allow. That includes the two 'bargain' apple trees if they don't get their growing into gear. The Apricot that didn't bloom my have peach leaf curl but I left it alone and it seems healthy if not earning it's space in this world.Still chilly, sort of sunny so no change while I've been writing. Time to pack a picnic I think and go and look at something beautiful. I've done enough chores. This was in a church flower show. Perfect!Inner Indolence - I like that.Mine's easy to find
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
