Unfortunately I did two things...
1. I bought a variety that apparently does 'better' with support (Bunyards Exhibition) and
2. I mixed up my runner (moonlight, painted lady, and scarlet emperor), french (opera and cobra) and broad beans (Bunyards)... though mice are a different matter

If you put a few pics up Arb someone on here will straighten you out with which beans are which. You going anywhere nice on your trip? I hope your boss appreciates your birthday brownies
How you feeling today Farway? Hopefully your system's acclimatising to it's extra bits.
As good as the washing line area looks Dusty, having a trough that close seems like tempting fate to me... hope MrsD has good strong pegs ha haa! Bet the 'children' were pleased to get it finished, good job well done there.
The tatty growings are coming on at pace now ehI got some more Majorcans for the dinner last night, jeez they're good this year. I'll be sorry when that season finishes.
Short post this morning. Neighbours were at it 'til the small hours, it just quietened off when the police arrived. I think their neighbour on the other side has truly had enough, so fingers crossed this means an improvement *please god*
The Devonians have given the weather today as warm again, sunny 'til after lunch then cloud from about 1400, high of 22' possibly. The sobers have finally caught on and are copying their answers. Desperate rain band working it's way up the country these next couple of days though, hopefully you sou'westerners and suvveners have your wellies + macs and plantings at the ready! As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...6 -

Speaking of, did I miss the update where the new entry was all done and dusted? Last I heard the weather was delaying play and the builder's dad was off on holiday (IIRC)?I don't know if they ache today. They left at 06.30 for work, and I missed them, but they're both very fit. DD has an arty job with a major retailer, which involves a lot of running between floors, and SiL does gym and/or swimming before work! The entrance is finished to the gates. We're out of money for more, and the field's growing rapidly for hay now, so the pile in there can't be turned into another hedgerow till July anyway. We've just written to the Managers of the barn people, suggesting they might like to change their stance, acknowledge our right of way and end the dispute sooner rather than later. Two of their residents are on the market, and it's not great having to report a live dispute when a sale gets as far as the TA6, (Property Info Form) Solicitors may have a field day, asking awkward questions and holding things up!
They won't have thought of that!

Exeter boozers have moderated the awfulness of what arrives here today to around 4-5 hours of heavy rain. That'll be fine, given our mini heat wave recently and all the planting we've done. No picture of that yet, but here's an unusual aquilegia that seeds around here which features upward-facing flowers as they mature. No grovelling for this shot!

Ooh pretty flowers there, and aptly named considering the coloursAs I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...5

The peas I think are identified well enough (they seem to grow much faster, which helps), but when it comes to the french/runners/broads, it could just be a case of waiting until they're bigger...
Re the unidentified ones, they're broadly into two groups - first lot have a cluster of four leaves, and the second has two spear shaped leaves (plus one outlier that I think is the same as group 2, but maybe the leaves were damaged because they're more cordate/heart shaped, or it could be a sole survivor of a different variety).
I don't know if the four leaves are baby broad beans (which I can now plant away from the supports) or if the 4 vs 2 is the runners vs french.
Looks like it's similar to yesterday in terms of dry until evening today but cooler (mid-teens). Hoping to get most of my remaining seedlings in the ground. I'm also thinking I might need to resow my rosemary as I'm starting to think what's in the pot is actually an opportunistic weed...I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.3 -
Rain just sprinkled a bit here for now, the proper stuff is for later todayYoungBlueEyes said:How you feeling today Farway? Hopefully your system's acclimatising to it's extra bits.

Of course with the rain I may not be able to sort out the tomato pots in the conservatory, I need to empty the old compost out in the garden. Being a wuss, I don't want to get wet doing it.It is a pleasant Aquilegia, Dusty. (A.I paraphrased that bit, I think it needs practice)
Your drying patch trough, I can imagine stepping back from hanging the washing & tumbling into the troughI did plant up the Siberian Sage into a pot at the front, so rain will helpArbitraryRandom said:I'm also thinking I might need to resow my rosemary as I'm starting to think what's in the pot is actually an opportunistic weed...Today's pic is Malus Lidlii "Champion" £1.95 very well spent in 2015Tastes excellent, maybe the Champion is from the Yorkshire tasting notes?, "Eee, tastes reet Champion"

Ooh, what a lovely aquilegia, Dusty. Your whirly area looks good too - I love the trough.
Sorry to hear about the neighbours, YBE. Fingers crossed the For Sale sign goes up again.
Lots of healthy looking seedlings there, AR, whatever they end up being. I'm wishing now I'd tried to source some King Edward seed potatoes - we always have King Edwards at Christmas roasted in goose fat - yum.
I'm a Yorkshire lass, Farway and have been known to say 'eee' in exclamationThat tree was definitely a bargain.
We're due light rain today and up to 18 degrees - eee, I'm boiling already haha...'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
YBE, nothing wrong with standing out, it's a Good Thing because who would want to be a wallflower? My cousin had the same thing, when she was in London, she was Selsh, in Wales, English or LahhhndahhnnDusty, that's an impressive amount of work, I hope they counted it as a good workout instead of paying a gymcute sheep too. Those aquilegia are very pretty, i like them, now I need them in the garden. I'm so I see it and I want it. That accounts for all the dead, munched or dying plants in the back garden..That water trough is very nice too.Arb, your top pictures are the broad beans. The other lot could be runners or french, the leaves look pretty much the same but you will find with frenches, the seed stays visible on the stem, the runners, not so much, also, the scale is different, so while the leaves look the same, runners have much bigger leaves. Have fun in St Fagans, we went there for an art collecge outing once and were allowed upstairs in places the gp aren't. I still remember it so it must have been fun.Farway, reet champion? I did snort my tea out at that.No gardening today, off ot Blenheim Palace for a shufti at things, in company, we'll see how long I last, I'll take a stick. The cats cannot stop lying in my flowers, damn things, so more sticks to discourage them are needed. I sowed Piglet Willies Frech Black, or thought I did, turns out, I mixed the seed so now where I would usually grow seven of them, I only have about three after snail depredation, and some black truffle but at least there's a good showing of Scatalone, Rio Grande, Crimean Black and Burmese Sour Tomato [ it's not sour, it looks a bit like a Costoluto, but it's used in sour cooking, hence the name].Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6
